Hailing from Sydney and being drawn into the Dj scene at Sydney’s first and only underground ‘Dancehall’, cemented Renée’s (AKA Dj RaggaRae) relationship with reggae music. Travelling Jamaica, Renée began collecting the musical heartbeat of the island nation, and on moving to Darwin, firmly found her home joining the crew of Club Kongo - Darwin’s long standing and much loved world music nights. Fu

rthering travel to Southern Africa, her music discovery broadened and fell in love with the hypnotic afro beats and chants from the continent. Renée loves taking her audience on a world music journey accenting well known old school hits amongst new bangers and unheard beats, lyrics and language. While staying true to her pure reggae roots, Renée enjoys introducing her audience to a range of musical genres including pumping dancehall and Afro beats.

::G O I N G W I T H I N::
Over the last 6 weeks I’ve been reintroducing myself to myself, becoming still and going within.

This type of self work is not for the faint hearted, but necessary when you can feel your flow is off, or you are not aligned.

I had veered off my path. I had allowed outside noise & distractions to guide me. I had turned away from the toolkit that I had built up over so many years & through so many hardships. My faith, my beliefs & my values were turned way down & I was operating out of a place guided by other people’s worlds rather than my own. Of course the body throws you symptoms when you are not aligned & I became unwell.

I told myself that I’d just become so busy, any mother would understand this line. But you will always give priority to what you value, so I suppose I’d lost the value of my toolkit.

Never feel shame at course correcting. For those that are willing to pull themselves up and be accountable are the ones who grow and better themselves. These are life lessons that will always favour us in our future selves.

I got rid of the distractions & immersed myself in my family…my strength…my everything!
I stayed off social media. I ditched coffee & alcohol and focussed on my wellbeing…physically, mentally & spiritually.

It has been both so hard and absolutely wonderful. The depths & silence I went through was confronting but so transformative…I’m feeling so renewed.

My daughters are my greatest achievements in my life & in what I do, I hope to inspire them to chase after their dreams no matter how huge they are. The goal I have come to believe, is to achieve those dreams through love for yourself & others and without hurting yourself or others.

I’m so excited to come back to you all next weekend, and the gigs that I’m returning with are so soul aligned & nourishing.

Can I just say, no surprises here but the music never left me, it continued to be my absolute joy, my support!

Thankyou to those who reached out to me over this time of silence 🫶🏼 I’ve missed you too! (Keep an eye out Sunday for news of next weekend🌅)
