- Angkas Driver

A conversation with an Angkas driver:

Me: Kuya, kamusta?
Kuya: Nako, pag ganitong umuulan, matumal, sir.
Me: Pero kaya naman?
Kuya: Kinakaya at Kakayanin, sir. Para sa pamilya at anak ko, makakain lang kami araw-araw, okay na. Ito na talaga ang hanapbuhay ko.

He added: “Ganito talaga sa Pilipinas, sir. Isang kahig, isang tuka.

Kahit mahirap, kakayanin.”

This conversation reminded me of two things:

1. Gagawin ng isang Pilipino ang lahat para sa pamilya. Malakas ang resilience ng bawat isa.

2. We all hope for a brighter future for the Philippines—a better leader, a better system, and a better life for everyone.

Mas na-appreciate ko ang mga drivers ngayon. Saludo ako sa inyo. Mabuhay kayo! 🙏✊

Books are one of the most powerful tools we can use to grow in life. Thank you, Ninong A📚

For the past few months, Zac Alviz and I, along with Kuya Jerry , have been flying to Melbourne for our Real Estate Investing Made Easy events.

Every trip has been a blessing—filled with meaningful conversations about life, business, investments, and real estate. Laging mayroong bagong natututunan!

One memorable moment was when we visited a bookstore, and Ninong A said, “Okay, pick a book. It’s on me.” Without hesitation, I chose Diary of a CEO, while Zac picked The Art of War. Thank you, Ninong A!

Speaking of books, Mga Sermon ni Ninong A: Book 3 is out now!

6 years ago, before moving to Sydney, I was a UAAP sports photographer for UP. Passion ko talaga to serve the Athletes, kasi athlete rin ako during my college days. But when I left, I had to put that chapter on pause.

Back then, I was running a business while also working as sports photographer for FOX Sports Asia 📷

I really miss those days—especially moments like these that you don’t get in Australia. This is my first time watching the UAAP Finals again after all these years! Hoping for a championship on Wednesday.

Thank you, nowhere to go but UP!

Hey, Skippy!

A lot has happened these past few days—it's been a humbling and life-changing experience. I just turned 30 a few days ago, and something strange happened.

I was packing my stuff for my flight back to Manila when, all of a sudden, my tummy felt an intense pain. It hurt so much that I stopped packing, drove out, and somehow found myself eating a whole slab of kebab. I went back home to finish packing, but the pain got worse. I ended up lying down for three hours and fell asleep.

The next morning, I hoped I’d feel better, but the pain persisted. I decided to visit the GP, who told me to go straight to Blacktown Hospital. I hesitated because I had so much to do, but I eventually drove myself to the ER. There, I went through a series of tests—blood tests, a CT scan, and more. It was overwhelming.

I arrived at 2 PM and finished all the tests by 2 AM. The doctor recommended immediate surgery but gave me the option of taking antibiotics instead, though I wouldn’t be able to fly to the Philippines.

The big problem? I wasn’t sure how much the surgery would cost. I heard it could be around AUD 14,000 or PHP 500,000. How was I going to pay for that instantly? I told them I needed to wait until 9 AM to call my private health insurance provider, but since it was a Saturday, there were no hotlines.

The surgeon came to me and said, “Skip, I’ve been a surgeon for 20 years. I recommended surgery because antibiotics alone might not be enough. If your appendix ruptures, it can be fatal. You can find money, but you can’t replace your life.”

Thankfully, the financial liaison officer confirmed that my insurance would cover most of the costs. Grateful and relieved, I signed the waiver to proceed with the surgery.I waited another five hours for my turn at the operating room.

With no phone or distractions, I spent that time reflecting. I prayed, “God, why is this happening? What do I need to realize?” I felt like He was telling me to slow down. I’ve been so focused on work and chasing my goals that I neglected my health, often eating poorly and overworking myself. Shout-out sa mga International Students Dyan!

Finally, the nurse, surgeon, and anesthetist explained the procedure. I appreciated how thorough and kind they were. Honestly, Blacktown Hospital exceeded my expectations, especially for a public hospital.

When they brought me into the operating room, I was fascinated by all the equipments. They inserted a cannula in my arm, administered anesthesia, and just like that, I was out. I woke up groggy, feeling high, but the nurse reassured me, “Okay, Skippy, you’re done.”

The first thing I noticed was the pain in my abdomen when I coughed, but I was relieved to see the small laparoscopic incisions. Afterward, I stayed overnight for observation. The antibiotics worked well, and the pain wasn’t too bad.

Before I was discharged, a Filipina nurse came to check on me and asked, “Ikaw si Skip Diba? the vlogger? I watch your videos on TikTok! Grabe dito pa kita makikita sa ospital Haha!" That moment became the highlight of my hospital stay. Knowing my content positively impacts people made me so happy. I even promised her a free photoshoot as a thank-you!

Now I’m back home, writing this journal.

Friends, let this be a reminder: take care of your health. As Ecclesiastes 1:2 says, “Everything is meaningless.” You can gain everything in this world but lose your life if you don’t take care of yourself.

Also, health insurance is a must.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask 😊 Let’s skip to the good part! Share for awareness!

I was a shy boy growing up.... BUT. 🫡

I grew up as an introvert. I was so nervous that I couldn’t even order at McDonald’s or Jollibee. I was just a simple probinsyano from Roxas City, Capiz who moved to Manila in Grade 3.

Back then, I only spoke English and Ilonggo—I couldn’t speak Tagalog. This made me a shy boy, and I was mocked and bullied by my classmates because of my accent. It crushed my confidence, leaving me too shy to speak in public and with very low self-esteem.

But one day, A man said something that changed me: “Wala may matabo simo kung mag huya huya ka.” (In Tagalog, “Wala mangyayari sa’yo pag nahihiya ka.”) Then he added, “I believe in you, Skip. Someday, you’ll rise above this. You’ll be like a volcano—silent at first but eventually erupting into greatness.” That man was Dad, My #1 believer.

Those words stuck with me. My passion and confidence weren’t built overnight—it took years of breaking my own barriers. The journey of self-development wasn’t easy, but I’ve learned that life will demand more from you because God knows you’re capable of more.

For over a decade, I’ve reminded myself daily: No matter what happens, I will push through, and I will show up.

And here I am. Now it’s your turn. 🌟

19/11/2024

A friend once told me, “Skip, gusto ko siya magbago.”

But here’s the thing: the issue isn’t about the person “changing.” It’s about our need for control. We get so attached to a person or an idea that it starts to define us. And sometimes, that attachment blinds us.

You have to ask yourself: through what lens do you want to view the world? People go through different seasons, journeys, mindsets, and perspectives. No two timelines are the same.

You can’t force someone to change just because it’s what you want. Life doesn’t work that way.

So what can you do? Hold loosely.

Hawakan mo, pero palayain mo. Maybe that person is in a season of growth, a time of pruning, or character development. Don’t let your desire for control compromise your principles.

We all have our own journeys. Respect theirs, and focus on yours.
