Posted • Ping! Here's Day 2 progress report, and FULL and extremely PRETTY (she says modestly) updated visual LIST of microtags. Headline: it IS ON! Thriving even!
What I've learned so far:
🧵Microtags work FINE
Yes you have to check them one by one, but each does contain everyone's posts
🧵On phone keep refreshing and they all show up. On laptop you only get 28 "top"
🧵Yeah not chronological --sucks but at least they're there
🧵Tagging me works! Your posts show up in my profile (swipe for pic) It's a good place to browse too
🤎🧵Following each other works! (ps If I haven't followed you yet, keep mendmarching and I'll find you)
🧵I am love love LOVING your mends, OMGGGG
🧵And j'adoooooore the comment parties all over
🧵please keep commenting here; I see these first and I want to hear from you
🧵Tell me any issues. Like: if you hit the bell are you actually getting notifications?
💞Special shoutout days (normal rules apply --all welcome)
💛3rd: Darn It!
🧡5th
❤️12th --I'll be Dr Mend live in London with Barley & ticket link in bio, I think there are a couple left!
🤎16th --for art & the environment; my sister Veronica's new show opening: cannot wait
💚19th Vernal --vernal equinox, start of spring, celebrating Jeanna's winter of care and repair
💜22nd Friend --annual tribute to Erin's patch swap
More about these coming.

Posted • It is (neeeeearly) March!
MendMarch is a party where we share daily clothes fixes via hashtag, and you are warmly invited. Remember, this is the 7th and FINAL one thanks to M*ta f*ckery. This makes it a more challenging challenge, but here are some workarounds. More encouragement coming. I'll be posting the day BEFORE, so first one tomorrow, and that will contain the tag of the day—swipe for all the first week’s. Here are tips for playing along and finding each other

1. Mend to the prompt of the day: twist it to your liking. Silly is good!
2. Post using AND today's tag
3. Save the prompts & tags. Also found here in “highlights"
4. Follow each other. I will follow every consistent mendmarcher
5. LIKE every MendMarch post you see! Make mending visible
6. Hit the bell —get an alert
7. Comment, share, spread the mend. More the merrier
8. Tag me! –your post should appear in my profile (my settings are ‘everyone’)
9. Make recap posts of your fave mends. Share the love
10. If you get lost gather here in the comments. Tell me & each other how it’s going
& HAVE FUN!
Most people do not seem to have the ability to change hashtag feed to 'past week' but if you do, then hoorah! Otherwise we are limited to the "top" 28 posts Why 28? No effin idea. But let's microtag our little brains out and get as many posts through the censors as possible. Full list of daily tags in Story and Highlights (you can guess them tbh), and this week's too. See you in MARCH! ###

Great news from and her excitement in sharing in a positive way🎉🤣

Posted • I’m so proud to announce that Mimiquins have invited me to be a Brand Ambassador for them. As you probably know I recently purchased the UK’s first seated Dress Form from them and I have been so impressed by Mia and Jaire’s dedication to make that happen and also their commitment to provide this option for other seated sewists.
I’m passionate about encouraging others to use I see this as a wonderful opportunity to raise the profile of disabled sewists within the sewing community.
My dress form should be ready next week so I’m very excited to show everyone just how wonderful it is and what a difference it’s going to make to my sewing.😁

Welcome to the podcast in 2024🎉

Lisa Walters is a follower and she’s a keen YouTube creator of sewing patterns. Not just any sewing patterns though.

In the lead up to gift giving season, many sewists made gorgeous gifts using their fabric scraps. Lisa creates sewing patterns of the cutest toys that many children and adults love.

She’s pictured here with her daughter Grace, the story author behind Lisa’s toy patterns.

Lisa’s bag patterns are really handy too.

Lisa’s creativity has allowed her to create seasonal sewing patterns so there are plenty of sewing projects you can find to use those fabric scraps for new things for yourself or for others.

Like many SewOver50 sewists, Lisa has loved sewing and sewing toys in her childhood.

Welcome back to the podcast in 2024. There are lots of new podcasts to be published again this year. Are you one of our guests? Direct message me to develop your sewing podcast.

Janene shares her easy photo tips you can try📸

Posted • Guest editor Janene gives her photo tips you might want to try to showcase your latest make🧵👗📸

*********

It doesn’t matter whether you shoot using a posh camera or a mobile phone but good natural light is most definitely key to an appealing photo and of course showcasing your garments. I’ve listed some other considerations below that relate to some of the shots on my grid.

1: Try not to crop too tight into the subject. Breathing space is much easier on the eye. Add minimal props for interest but not to distract.

2&3: Put your garment centre stage. Whether shot on a phone or a camera, use a depth of field, if available, to fuzz out the background and put the focus where it’s needed most.

4: Good use of white space doesn’t mean we should always have to put ourselves in the middle of the frame. ‘Rule of thirds’ is a long established recipe for composition.

5&6: If your garment has interesting details, be sure to pose in a way that shows them off well. In these cases, the drape of the fluted lace sleeves were highlighted as were the covered buttons. An interaction with hands helps to represent scale and adds ownership too.

7: If an outfit speaks for itself it will grab as much attention on a mannequin. A clear corner of a room enables the eye to be drawn in by the lines of perspective.

8: Make the simplest of silhouettes pop by making shapes with your pose and stand in front of a contrasting coloured background.

9: What's the story? Create a bit of intrigue with a back view and some work in progress.

10: Always keep an eye open for interesting locations. Doesn’t have to be fancy. This spot was the side wall of a burger shop!

Thanks for your great photo tips Janene.

Jenny of is always looking for local models to reflect representation of sewists. Are you a local to Boston and would like to be a model for Cashmerette patterns?

Earlier this year Jenny helped with their ageism representation data. Jenny knows how Cashmerette is tracking with their representation goals.

Jenny has models to promote their patterns that she's found a few models through 'word of mouth'.

This week you'll find great guest posts on SewOver with and sharing their photo knowledge for you to try.

You enjoy sewing your clothes. Why not have fun taking photos that show your sewing joy as well.

Head over to for Lindsie's latest tutorial. Podcasts start again next week🎙️🎙️. Posted • I’ve been promising this tutorial FOREVER 🙃 it’s finally here! Giant FBA on a raglan tee 🪡

⭐️ link in bio ⭐️

For this step-by-step (which I sewed all the way back in March and just never posted 🙈) I used the free Chelsea Raglan, though the steps can be used for any woven raglan, or really even a knit raglan with a smidge of modification on the math.

Have you made a raglan? What pattern have you tried?

Posted • I participated in the retreat where there were four different creative online workshops every day for five days as well as a very active and supportive facebook group where we share our makes and creative ideas. The workshops are free for 24 hours, but I decided to buy the VIP pass (which is still available) so I could concentrate on a few of the workshops and still not miss out on all the other very inspiring workshops. It is is a retreat that has many stich workshops but I started out with bookbinding workshop make acorn ink workshop and mixed media on heavy watercolour paper so most of my creativity found it's expression on paper this time around. I also found peace watching meditative running stitch and decided to make a running scribble as well as through embroidering .art parabolas, and using what you have, and ended up incorporating feathers and stones/pearls that have special meaning to me. The workshops ended up being a very healing process on some grief that I am carrying around. Mostly because going through the proces of making ones own ink, places a completely new focus on the media and not so much on the expression, and I basically just went with the media and watched where it took me. Thank you to all the teachers, all the participants, to Kate for arranging it all and to Maria for doing interviews with some of the teachers.

Hashtags can no longer be seen in chronological order.

We are doing our best to find you! 🤗

By using the new monthly tag it reduces the volume of posts over the month and increases our chances of seeing your posts.

Importantly, please use the notifications bell 🛎️ on our page so that you can find us too!

Our editors work hard to create posts, check the tags and add to our stories to keep older sewists visible. 💪💪💪

Cassie designed a breast form sewing pattern for her sister-in-law. This is another design Cassie has created for post mastectomy specialty needs within her lingerie sewing patterns.

Tina who we know is an advocate for sewing patterns that meet the needs of people living with the affects of cancer treatments, has tested some of Cassie's lingerie designs.

Cassie's designs, Primrose Dawn provides feminine but practical PDF sewing patterns in a wide range of sizes to create custom lingerie at home. Form, function, beauty and comfort are all areas of focus for each pattern we create for you. Her digital patterns come in a variety of styles, including underwired and wireless bras, underwear from briefs to thongs, and post-mastectomy specialty items for people with breast cancer.

Using your design skills for a family or friend is a very satisfying project to work on for both of you. It comes from the heart. ❤️❤️
