BLACKTOWN’S FINEST || Corinna, Mia and David Snook

Corinna Snook was a nurse at Westmead and was due back from maternity leave when doctors found a tumour on a bone in her leg. After many operations there was no other option than to amputate it and give her a better quality of life. Corinna turned to the sport of pole dancing as a way to help her recover and has won a place to represent Australia!

Find out how her husband David and daughter Mia came up with a clever plan to help fund her trip to represent our country on pages 6 and 7 of our September issue or read online here:

LOCAL LIFE || Coles' giant automatic distribution centre

If he were alive today, Sir George
James "GJ” Coles - he’s not, he’d be 139 years old - would have been gobsmacked!
Gobsmacked at the official opening in August of Coles Supermarkets gigantic
fully Automated Distribution Centre (ADC) at Kemps Creek.

Old GJ, who founded the business in 1914, would have been both amazed and proud of the achievements of those who followed him at the helm of Coles Supermarkets.

Wednesday, 21 August
A man will face court today charged by S*x Crimes Squad detectives with allegedly sexually assaulting a youth at knifepoint in a Mt Druitt park.
On Thursday 15 August 2024, officers attached to Mt Druitt Police Area Command received a report that a youth had been waiting at Mt Druitt railway station at about 1.15am that morning before being approached by an unknown man.
The man allegedly took the youth to a nearby park where he threatened the youth with a knife and sexually assaulted them before leaving the scene in a white van.
Detectives attached State Crime Command’s S*x Crimes Squad immediately established Strike Force Blaina to investigate the incident.
Following extensive investigations, strike force detectives arrested a 33-year-old man on Duke Street, Mt Druitt, about 6.20pm yesterday (Tuesday 20 August 2024).
He was taken to Mt Druitt Police Station where he was charged with aggravated sexual in*******se with a child between 10 and 14 and intentionally sexually touch a child between 10 and 16.
The man was refused bail to appear before Mt Druitt Local Court today (Wednesday 21 August 2024).
Detective Superintendent Jayne Doherty, S*x Crimes Squad Commander, wants the public to remain vigilant in their communities and look out for anything or anyone acting suspicious.
“I want to continue to urge the community to stay vigilant and look out for children.” Det Supt Doherty said.
“If you’re a victim of sexual violence please reach out to police or support services. You will be supported during this difficult time.
“If you decide to report your assault to police, we will support and walk beside you on your journey.” Det Supt Doherty said.
Inquiries are continuing.
Anyone with information that may assist investigators is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence. The public is reminded not to report information via NSW Police social media pages.

THE POWER OF... SERIES
The power of giving up

When we think of 'giving up' we usually associate it with a bad habit or things that are unhealthy for us, but sometimes giving up things which are deemed healthy, useful or a good habit can also work to our benefit!

Changing path and letting go of what no longer serves you opens you to different ideas, new targets to work towards and a more balanced life.
