Congratulations to Women Aloud NI. The anthology North Star has been shortlisted for The Carousel Aware Prize.

Booker prizewinner Paul Lynch is the patron of the Carousel Aware Prize for independent authors, which aims to provide a platform to showcase the cream of Irish Self-Published authors, bringing them to the attention of book shops, distributors, and the media in Ireland and abroad, with all money raised going to the charity Aware.

The CAP Awards are are also a reader’s guarantee of quality, and with that in mind, please do check out North Star: (Link in Comments)

Women Aloud NI was set up in January 2016 to elevate the voices of Women Writers living in and coming from Northern Ireland. Together we have run events, supported our members' professional development and provided a vibrant community of women who actively support and promote each other.

Our writers represent a wide spectrum of publishing experiences, but this shortlisting acknowledges our own collective spirit or independence as women in an environment that did not traditionally favour women. It has been an amazing team effort getting this far. Thanks to our committee and current chairperson Hilary McCollum, to the editorial team of North Star and to those writers who contributed to the anthology. Thanks also to Leschenault Press for enabling this independent publication.

The winner will be announced in Dublin on Friday 1st November.

I cannot begin to express the full extent of my frustration with Square - the ever so "Handy" pain in the backside payment system - I doubt anyone belonging to the company can even be bothered to explain why they randomly hold 'incoming' funds to 'check' on them - really? Surely all they are doing is holding the money in their own accounts and making interest on them - what a complete rort. Also, their help line is useless and their chat app meaningless.

It is with great sadness that we have lately learned of the passing of two of our authors.

Richard Utting and Steve Dimodica were some of the first writers to put their trust in Book Reality as a publishing service.

Richard, an Australian Army Vietnam veteran, led a most fascinating and diverse life, even serving as the Mayor of Fremantle for a term. He brought out his autobiography through Book Reality back in 2017.

Steve Dimodica, a veteran of the US military's elite Special Forces, was the author of five novels, one of which, The Hi**er Progeny, he brought out through us.

We offer our sincere condolences to both men's family, friends and wider circles.
