This episode of My Warm Table Podcast is an emotional one for Sonia as her Papa (pictured), Norberto Faccin, worked for Electric Power Transmission (EPT) and was a pioneer of constructing electricity towers and other key infrastructure projects, like Hamersley Iron Ore, Muja Power Station, Forrest Tower, throughout WA and Australia.

Find out how EPT helped shape and modernise Australia. Join us around the tavola calda (Norberto's famous saying!) https://www.buzzsprout.com/1943823/13968000

Work Christmas parties are in full swing now, but there are few celebrations which would rival the fun and memories as the family work picnics held by Electric Power Transmission (EPT) back in the 60s and 70s! 😂

EPT was extremely progressive in its company culture and looked after its many migrant men with good food, social activities and a full time Chaplain. It was way ahead of its time in understanding the importance of mental health and social connection. 💙

Listen to our warm table conversation with Matthew Quomi who has been researching EPT's history. https://www.buzzsprout.com/1943823/13968000

We're paying tribute to the migrant and hard working men of Electric Power Transmission (EPT) - a company which connected Australia through the construction of electricity towers and other key infrastructure projects.

Check out these 'dongas' in Dampier! 😲 This tent camp on the beachfront at King Bay (Dampier) housed EPT's men in 1964 as they worked to construct the Hamersley Iron Ore Project.

This huge project was the catalyst for EPT to put down roots in Western Australia.

Isolated so far from the company's base in Sydney, that group of EPT employees were true pioneers.

The grain silo in Midland was the first infrastructure project undertaken by Electric Power Transmission (EPT) in WA in the 1950s.

In record time and drawing on its expertise from across Australia and Europe, EPT built this silo to store grain for local farmers when the international market was in excess.

After standing for 60 years, sadly this iconic structure was demolished in 2016.

Did your family have a TV like this when you were growing up? Mine did! 🥰

The advent of television in Australia during the 1950s heralded opportunities for Electric Power Transmission (EPT) to diversity its business into building telecommunications structures.

Towers for the broadcast of TV mushroomed on the horizon all over the country, followed by microwave towers for Australia's telephone network.

Take a trip down memory lane with us around the warm table today: https://www.buzzsprout.com/1943823/13968000

What do the NASA Space Program and EPT have in common?!

Australia was modernising and growing exponentially in the 1950s and EPT was at the heart of many projects including the construction of Carnarvon's satellite dish that was built as part of the global communications satellite system that incorporated the NASA space program.

(Fun Fact: EPT was also involved in the er****on of the antenna array at the North West Cape in Exmouth). Listen to our fascinating My Warm Table Podcast episode with Matthew Quomi today: https://www.buzzsprout.com/1943823/13968000

Electric Power Transmission (EPT) holds an important chapter in Australia’s story.

The story of migrants making their way in a new land.

The story of connecting Australia across a remarkable and unforgiving landscape.

The story of powering Australia into prosperity – signalling the start of industry, new jobs and new economic opportunities.

To help tell this story, I’m joined by Matthew Quomi around the warm table. Matthew’s father, like mine, worked for EPT and this paternal legacy inspired Matthew, an architect and passionate historian, to research and write a book about EPT and its communities.

Listen today and join us around a very warm table! https://www.buzzsprout.com/1943823/13968000

S2 E16: TURNING THE LIGHTS ON - A HISTORY OF EPT, MIGRATION AND MODERNISING AUSTRALIA WITH MATTHEW QUOMI

In this episode we stop a moment to think about how we are so connected to electricity.

We’re going to honour the courageous and skillful people who climbed heights without fear to assemble and construct those tall steel structures across our Australian landscape.

We’re going to step back in time to 1951 when the Australian branch of an Italian company set up in Australia to connect our vast, remote country to a reliable electricity source which enables a future of possibility and prosperity.

Electric Power Transmission Pty Ltd or EPT - was that company.

EPT holds an important chapter in Australia’s story.
The story of migrants making their way in a new land.
The story of connecting Australia across a remarkable and unforgiving landscape. The story of powering Australia into prosperity – signalling the start of industry, new jobs and new economic opportunities.

EPT turned on the lights for Australia, so it’s only fair that we should shine a little light on it today. To help tell this story, I’m joined by Matthew Quomi around the warm table. Matthew’s father, like mine, worked for EPT and this paternal legacy inspired Matthew, an architect and passionate historian, to research and write a book about EPT and its communities.

Matthew has spent the last few years sharing warm tables across Australia piecing together the history of EPT with the pioneers of Australia’s energy legacy – migrant men now aged in their 70s and 80s.

The Quenda Project is Donalea Patman's latest ambition is to rewild and revegetate barren areas in our state and her charity For the Love Of Wildlife is working with Quenda Ecologics here in WA.

Quenda is a low-cost solar powered, autonomous “Mars style” rover that simply emulates a quenda (bandicoot) by drilling shallow, angled holes into the ground at a rate of 20,000 holes per hectare per day.
