Joel Baker, Director of Better Bread
Director, Producer, Cinematographer, Business Owner
In his early years throughout high school, Joel maintained a burning ambition for music & filmmaking. Despite having failed his TAFE courses in both film & audio, he has since created a present & powerful brand.
Joel recalls his first paid music video shoots: “I remember I would train into the city to meet my friends who made music. We would walk around finding cool spots to shoot, and when we were done, we would walk to an ATM where they would withdraw $50 for me to take home and that was that.” Since then, Joel Baker has worked on hundreds of videos alongside local, interstate & international clientele. He has had the opportunity to work alongside names such as: Central Cee, Day1, Mason Dane, Ape The Label, Ninajirachi, Kota Banks, Adrian Dzvuke, Kayps, Oshua, Wesley Black & many more. In 2024 alone, Joel has produced 2 films that have made their way to the Time Square, NYC billboards.
Joel pays homage to his early days in the local Perth underground scene: “Goat 6K was the first Hip-Hop show I ever attended. I was asked to shoot the whole event, and as I had just started releasing music of my own, I was asked to hop on stage for the first time to perform. No amount of beer consumed that night could make me forget that feeling”.
Joel immersed himself further into the Perth culture by releasing music & performing under the alias Cloud Dstrct, where he hastily made his way up in the ranks scoring spins on Triple J, Ash London on Hit Network 94.5fm, & The Chart Show by Brooke Reese on Apple Music.
“To this day I feel as though I have an advantage in the music film industry because I feel both sides. I understand what it’s like to be an artist in terms of budgets and the depth behind artistry. I also have the utmost respect for the visualisers who w
