Alice Springs, NT 🏜️

We were told by everyone not to visit Alice Springs…so we went anyway to make up our own minds, and we found a green, lively town with PLENTY to do. We loved the botanical gardens, and the small hike that has 360 views at the top 🌿

Whilst we aren’t blind to the issues, we can only share OUR experience: We felt safe in and around town, met friendly people, and loved the scenery in this desert oasis!

Our honest thoughts on Alice Springs… 🤔

Australia’s “most dangerous” town turned out to be so much more than we expected… lush greenery, a busy town with lots to do and a real community feel.

There’s a lot of negativity around Alice Springs, but all we’d say is: if you can, visit for yourself before forming an opinion.

They’re so relentless, we can’t imagine living with them long-term, but it made us wonder…

We couldn’t believe how green Alice Springs is… and it’s right in the middle of Australia! 🤯

We honestly thought it would be dry and desert out here… but wow, this surprised us.

Everyone told us to skip it, but we’re so glad we didn’t. Alice Springs has a pretty bad reputation, but from what we experienced it was nothing like what people said… 😅

Kings Canyon: Our Full Guide 🎒🥾

Planning a day at Kings Canyon in Australia’s Red Centre? Here’s a quick guide to the main walks and what to bring: 👇

📍 Kings Creek Walk: 2km return
• Easy, mostly flat walk inside the gorge
• Great if you’re short on time or not keen on big climbs

📍 Kings Canyon Rim Walk: 6km loop
• Grade 4 hike with a steep climb at the start
• Takes you around the top of the canyon with cliff views, domes & the Garden of Eden lookout
• Allow 3-4 hours, access closes at 9am if temperatures are forecasted to exceed 36°C

📍 South Wall Return: 4.8km
• Follows part of the Rim Walk but returns the same way
• Great option if you want views from the top without doing the full loop
• Can’t access the full loop from this walk’s start point

What to bring:
💧 Minimum 4L of water per person
🧢 Hat, sunglasses and high SPF sunscreen
🥾 Proper walking shoes with good grip
🍎 Snacks & sandwiches
👚 Light layers - keep yourself protected from the harsh UV
🧭 Offline maps/trail info (no service)
📸 Camera for the awesome canyon views

Kings Canyon is MASSIVE… and we walked around it! 😆

While visiting the NT, we couldn’t miss the iconic Kings Canyon Rim Walk, and honestly, it’s become one of our favourite hikes in Australia so far.

If you haven’t done it yet, add it to your NT itinerary… you won’t regret it!
