Additionally, most plants release oxygen during the day, when the sun is available to power photosynthesis. However, some plants, like cacti and succulents for example snake plant) use a different photosynthetic pathway called crassulacean acid metabolism (CAM). CAM allows these plants to keep their stomata closed during the day to reduce water loss, and they release some oxygen at night.
