One of the toughest jobs in the music industry is writing music for video games. Further than that, games with no verbal dialogue. Even further, games with no dialogue WHATSOEVER.

Having written for two of the best games in that category, Limbo and Inside (among other games such as Control and Wolfenstein), it is fair to say that the Danish composer Martin Stig Andersen has a way with sound.

"I just got an MRI. If you don't know, MRI machines are very loud, but at least at the place I go to, they ask what type of music you want to listen to while you're in the exam, and they give you these big ol' headphones. So, they asked me this time, and I'm like, "oh, can you just play anything?" and they're like, "yeah, we have Pandora." So I say "okay, just put on Chappell Roan radio."

I was misheard. They instead put on Chaperone radio; Chaperone being this artist with 143 monthly listeners on Spotify. So imagine my shock when instead of Pink Pony Club vibes, I have to lay there completely still for 25 minutes, to THIS..."

The Musical Monologue.
A form of writing in and of itself, that creatively expresses thought without the need of conventional songwriting techniques. Sometimes the result of a stream of consciousness, sometimes the product of necessity, monologues are often-times the most powerful lyrics.

Tonight, amongst others, we'll hear Underground Big by Bring Me The Horizon, a stream-of-consciousness monologue delivered by Oli Sykes after their studio computer crashed and created a hypnotic audio loop. When these moments are created in the right conditions, someone can pour their brain out in the most beautiful of ways; that is what Sykes did.
