Andrew Lovitt is part of a community group that has spent 15 years investigating a large-scale infrastructure proposal to prevent flooding in Launceston, in northern Tasmania.

👉 Threat from this fire has reduced. Crews are continuing to supress. There's also a bushfire smoke alert for residents in Bell Bay, Georgetown and surrounds.

📍The fire is travelling towards Curries River Reservoir and expected to impact Bridport Road, Curries Dam Road and surrounds

Three Tasmanian men have fronted court following an investigation into an alleged drug syndicate linked to the harness racing industry across New South Wales and Tasmania.

Police allege the group was transporting methylamphetamine and co***ne from New South Wales to Tasmania, in exchange for cash.

The men have been refused bail and their cases remain before the NSW Local Court.

A structure fire has caused about $500,000 damage to a heritage listed building at the Low Head Pilot Station near George Town.

Fire crews were called to the site on Thursday afternoon, and arrived to find smoke billowing from a building with one section well alight.

Firefighters extinguished the fire, and a fire investigator determined the cause was accidental.

Tasmania's Education Minister Jo Palmer has moved to reassure students affected by errors on their Tasmanian Certificate of Education exam papers that strategies are in place to ensure the errors do not affect their results.

It comes after errors with the biology and legal studies exams this week.

Police are appealing to the public for information after a gorilla statue was stolen from the roof of a house in Beaconsfield.

The 3-metre-tall statue was stolen on Sunday night, and after a tip off from the public was located in Rifle Range Road and collected by its owner.

Anyone with information about who may be responsible is encouraged to contact West Tamar Police or Crime Stoppers.
