Good samaritan Averil believes in flower power to spread joy

THINK flowers, think Averil Walker. This Campbelltown resident has been spreading joy by making beautiful flower arrangements from her own garden and delivering them to local community facilities over the last 10 years. A qualified florist and horticulturist, needless to say, Averil has an amazing garden. Each week, Averil’s husband drives her around the Macarthur community and they drop off flower arrangements, made from their own garden blooms, to the foyer areas of Campbelltown Art Gallery, private hospitals and medical facilities, among others. Local MPs take on fitness challenge to combat Australia's health crisis

IN a push to address Australia’s health crisis, over 30 federal MPs including local MP Dr Mike Freelander will participate in AUSactive’s Fit for Office – a three-week fitness challenge kicking off at the Parliament House gym on November 19. The program launch will be led by Senate President Sue Lines and former Ironman Champion Guy Leech. With chronic illness, preventable hospitalisations, and mental health issues on the rise, Fit for Office aims to lead by example. AMA’s Professor Steve Robson says without a shift to prevention, GP shortages and rising health costs will continue to burden the healthcare system. PARTICIPATING IN THE SOCIAL MEDIA SUMMIT - Time to address impact on our children

By Sally Quinnell MP, Member for Camden

AS parents in the modern world, we are all grappling with the enormous role that social media plays in the life of our children.

Where previous generations were out riding their bikes, experiencing nature, building their friendships in person, young people today are learning about life on social media sites that have little interest in their healthy development.

As a former teacher, I have seen this impact, and I am concerned about the harm this is having on our kids and that is why I am urging residents to have their say on social for the upcoming social media summit. LOCAL COUPLE'S SIDE HUSTLE JOURNEY - They're partners in life and delivery

AS the cost-of-living crisis continues to impact households across Australia, many are turning to side hustles to make ends meet.
The latest data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) reveals that nearly 6.7% of employed Australians now hold multiple jobs, a significant increase from 5.1% in June 2020. Among these enterprising individuals are Bob and Crissy Tortasi, a couple from Campbelltown who have found a unique way to balance their financial needs and family life. More here:
