With many of our group either starting or returning to kinder, we decided to make friendship the focus of our Valentine's Day celebrations. We are talking about how to make new friends, what to say when you want to play with someone or invite someone to join your play, and how to use kind words. We are also discussing the importance of sharing and taking turns. Of course, we are having fun creating friendship necklaces, cards, and magnets as part of the celebration.

The Warracknabeal children suggested that it's so hot outside we don’t need to use the machine to dry our fruit. With a forecast of 38°C next week, we’ll be putting their theory to the test.

Our frozen treats to beat the hot summer heat have become a culinary sensation the last couple of weeks. What started as making simple orange juice icy poles has evolved into something much more creative. The Dimboola crew suggested making more flavours, leading to the creation of a lemon and lime combination. They shared their feedback with the Warracknabeal crew, mentioning that the lemons and limes were more difficult to cut than the oranges and that the icy poles ended up too sour, with the lemon flavor being overpowering. The Warracknabeal crew decided something sweet was needed to balance the tartness, so a vote was held, and honey narrowly beat green candy canes as the ideal addition. Since then, new flavors have emerged, including lemon with mint leaves from the garden and strawberry icy poles made with fresh fruit from our own patch.

The Dimboola crew is all set for the long weekend! They will be pitching a tent and camping, hitting the beach, playing backyard cricket, and enjoying a BBQ lunch. There’ll be a bit of fishing, koala spotting, and a trip to Sydney Harbour to watch the Royal Australian Air Force display. And to top it off, they’ll be cooling down with some homemade orange juice icy poles.

Our first week back for 2025 was a hot one in the Wimmera! Both the Dimboola and Warracknabeal groups stayed cool in the mudpie kitchen making frozen floral spheres. It was a fun and refreshing way to beat the heat.

We have been on chick watch today as we egarly await the arrival of Oreo and Strawberry's chicks. With a couple of eggs in the incubator as well we have also been closely monitoring heat and moisture levels over the past few weeks.

The aged care residents at Rural Northwest Health in Warracknabeal truly outdid themselves this Halloween with their creative and spooky mummy crafts. The children absolutely loved them, which inspired us to take it a step further by creating our own unique twist on the concept—baby doll mummies! Using their brilliant idea as a foundation, we wrapped baby dolls in bandages, transforming them into adorable little mummies.

Our Warracknabeal show craft headed up to Rural Northwest Health so the children could show off their crafting talents and we were delighted to recieve some spooky Halloween crafts back.

Superhero Week - It is a celebration that goes beyond wearing our favorite costumes; it’s an opportunity to recognize the true heroes within our community: police officers, CFA members, volunteers, and countless individuals who work tirelessly to make our community great. It's also a reminder that anyone can be a hero by making choices that uplift others. By promoting kindness, manners, teamwork, and community service, we can all wear our capes every day.

Now that everyone has received their gifts, we can share our 2024 Father's Day and Special Person's Day craft. It was a unanimous vote for snackle boxes, partly because the group thought it was a great idea and partly because they wanted to eat the lollies.

🧪Science week 🧪 Science week saw the Dimboola group learn about weather with rain clouds and plasma ball experiments, whilst the Warracknabeal group learned about primary and secondary colours using the skittles experiment and coloured water. We found two fabulous books to help us include an Indigenous perspective on our science week themes.
