Young people showing strong leadership ability think creatively and act decisively. They help motivate and inspire others to aim high. In business, commerce and the community, effective young leaders are emerging by displaying initiative, innovation and a commitment to excellence.

Sizol Fuyana overcame her own adversities and mental health issues, and founded Fuyana Support, a youth-oriented consultancy firm that provides social and emotional wellbeing to young people through building connections. She has successfully designed and rolled out programs across the territory to support young people coming out of the justice system. Sizol was Chair of the 2021 NT Youth Round Table, helped launch the NT Education Engagement Strategy and sat on the Expert Advisory Panel. She currently studies Law and Psychology at Charles Darwin University and was named the 2022 NT Young Australian of the Year.

When an individual breaks away from the usual constraints of their surroundings, the rest of the peers often feel uncomfortable and intimidated. Sadly, people begin to compare their own achievements or lack thereof rather than rising up to accomplish more or thrive for better, it’s easier to pull someone else (the tall poppies) down, down to their level.

Instead, if you find yourself being one to bring others down - turn from this & ask the person how they did it & maybe you might learn a thing or two.

If you find yourself experiencing the ‘tall poppy syndrome’ just remember your why & create a strong support network. It’s nothing personal, people often only see your success and turn a blind eye to your struggles

After overcoming her own adversities and mental health issues, small business owner Sizolwenkosi (Sizol) Fuyana now devotes her life to supporting disadvantaged young people who are at risk of entering the justice system.

Sizol is the founder and Managing Director of Fuyana Support. It’s a youth-oriented consultancy firm that provides social and emotional wellbeing to young people, equipping them with skills to help them be more effective members of communities.

Sizol has partnered with the City of Palmerston to develop a ‘Youth Info Map’, with the project leading to freelance work with Joblink. She also works with youth at Don Dale Youth Detention Centre.

Sizol’s podcast, The Reality Change, is about personal growth and facing adversity. She is also Chair of the 2021 Northern Territory Youth Round Table, which aims to make the government aware of key issues that are important to young people.

A law and psychology student who has volunteered for many working groups, Sizol recently received a Northern Territory Government Small Business Achievement Award.

READ THIS!! When you go for a BIG goal, expect to face some challenges. And when they arrive, recognize them for what they are: Opportunities for growth.

Don’t get stuck in worry mode when things don’t go as you expected. Don’t give up when an obstacle seems bigger than you. Don’t get discouraged when every voice tells you that you’re crazy and you should give up.

Instead, keep focusing on where you’re going, not where you are.

Remind yourself that the challenge you’re facing is not your destination; it’s just a step along the way.

Second, keep reminding yourself that the right people, funds, and resources are already on the way to you.

And finally, act as if it were IMPOSSIBLE to fail.

These things will not only get you through the middle, but they will also put you on the road to big-time success in your life.

Remember, faith and fear have a lot in common, they both demand you believe in something you cannot see...
