This is a pic they sent in yesterday of a 39cm PB model they caught recently in a pond on the southside. They are doing a great job and creating amazing memories together as father and son along the journey!

More scenery and photos of my mug. You know what that means.
That's three silent days straight π© π© π© in Victoria at Lauriston Reservoir (except for two bites on Powerbait that didn't convert). That's fishing sometimes. Lots of jumping and active fish just beyond casting distance. Three different bays tried.
At least this morning was without wind and rain. Licking my wounds and preparing for State of Origin tonight. Come on NSW!

Nearly caught a cold at Lauriston Reservoir in Victoria.
That was about it this morning. Persisted through bitter rain and wind. Tried bait, tried plastics, tried hard bodies. No sign of the fishy activity of yesterday morning.

This is a ripper new reel for its price point and matches my new surf rod bloody perfectly by dumb luck, but I'm going to need something with longer casting capabilities and quality I reckon.
My new 12ft magically light surf rod from Dennis at Canberra Fishing Rod Repairs deserves much better and will get what's deserved very soon.

What's your approach to leaders? Heavier/stronger than mainline or lighter? π€
I have had a few interesting chats with different fisher people of late and wanted to ask you all your opinion/approach.
For the record I use lighter leader (monofilament) than my (braid) mainline in all scenarios (and still use double uni knots). I don't really understand any other approach to leaders, but wanted to hear opinions.
What's your approach and why? A, B or C.
A. Leader lighter than mainline.
B. Leader heavier than mainline.
C. Some other magical combination.

I don't do much fishing on charter boats, as I get pretty sea sick, pretty easily. I do fish through it, as I am a fishing nut, but it ain't much fun.
Spoiler alert, it didn't happen this time. One TravaCalm at 4pm the night before, one after dinner and two more just an hour before heading out seemed to do the trick.
A magnificent day of fishing on the waters around the Whitsunday Islands ensued (until a boat engine failed). Dan and Mitch our hosts from Airlie Beach Fishing Charters were champions and very knowledgeable. Highly recommend them if you're up north on holidays.
We bottom bashed, hopped spots, were followed by Great White Sharks and boated around 50 good fish between 11 folks onboard. I caught the biggest Nannygai 58cm and my brother-in-law Luke got the biggest Sweet Lip Snapper 62cm. Awesome fun all round!
We took five of our catch back to our hotel to enjoy for dinner last night at Daydream Island Resort & Living Reef. Boy oh boy did the chef at Infiniti restaurant do a stellar job on the cook up. We handed off the rest to others onboard as we were heading back to Canberra today.
We will definitely be going back next time!

Some wonderful new gear to put into action very soon in these god awful wintery conditions.
Planning on doing some more freshwater lake fishing for Trout with the Taylormade Lures Fat Banger and some light coloured curl tail minnow style plastics from Trigger Tackle (made locally in ACT).
SHIMANO Australia Fishing sunglasses will do well spotting them in the edges too I hope π
Winter has well and truly arrived. S**t it's cold out here in ACT.
Despite the cold, I decided to give the relentless Cod throwing a little break and headed out with my custom built 1-3kg ultralight rod from Dennis at Canberra Fishing Rod Repairs in pursuit of some night time Winter Reddies. If you didn't know, Dennis makes the best custom built rods in Canberra and is located in South Canberra.
Once again the winning combo colour from Bdazzled Baits of green and rust came up trumps. This plastic literally catches everything. Anytime of day. Anywhere. Go and see Ben in Latham if you fancy throwing this plastic in your local waterway.
I was really happy to nab two nice thick Reddies for a quick Winter feed last night.

Fishing is an addictive drug. Some use it to escape life. Some just love the trip.
The trip can take you to a whole lot of amazing places that you couldn't reach without fishing.
Being outside and active is the best drug to cure almost every bit of ill health.

Popped my Pejar Dam Nsw cherry on Day 2 of Trout closing weekend 2024 π after three visits to the dam in two weeks.
The Cotter River was low and more miss than hit on Day 1 of 2024 Trout close, so something drew me to try again at Pejar, this time with the whole family. Unconventional given rivers were closing, but it paid off and most awesome to crack a bit of the Pejar code with my Jacob who has accompanied me on 2 of the 3 trips.
First stop was for a pie and sausage roll at Trappers Bakery Goulburn then on we went. Up first was throwing a new 'Fat Banger' from Taylormade Lures which madly enough seemed to tempt two follows in very dirty water following heavy rains. This lure will surely catch Trout and hopefully my first Bass very soon (see pics).
In the end between Jacob having a break in flicking I was able to tempt this excellently healthy and heavy 48cm Buck Rainbow Trout on a quality rip rap soft plastic from Bdazzled Baits. The orange, golden and red colours are really working at this end of the season (see pics).
Promised my eldest son Jacob two Rainbows on Day 1 of Trout closing weekend 2024 for dinner.
Not sure this will cut it, but how beautiful are they?

Last weekend was a long weekend in Canberra for Reconciliation Day, which meant extra time to relax, reflect and spend some awesome hours walking around the beautiful surrounds of the nations capital and beat my PB for Rainbow Trout at 54cm.
Began my Saturday with a long walk up a local creek, climbing boulders, falling into wombat burrows and nailing this massive hen. Smaller size/profile soft plastics and some orange π seem to be the key ingredients at the moment.
The 2.5 inch Curl Tail from got crunched 3 times (see pic) by the larger fish yesterday. Slow, low and steady retrieve doing the business.
