Harvesting tropical fruit ๐Ÿ€ The jambu draw energy and water from summer storms, quickly filling into bright gems. They are watery apples that grow on trees and on a hot day, their juicy insides are a glass of cool water growing in the middle of the forest. They taste like an apple and watermelon combined! The most amazing flavours are provided by nature with perfect timing; there is no better feeling than the end of a humid day, sitting in the shade of a jambu tree and eating their sunshine flesh. And just like that, the cyclone has passed ๐ŸŒ€Weโ€™re all safe, the ducks are back out in the paddock (they loved their holiday in the bathroom lol) and the goats and sheep are happy to see some sun again. We had over 800mm of rain and it was the biggest winds weโ€™ve ever experienced. We sadly we lost a lot of fruit trees: two longans, an orange, papaya, macadamia and a big old black sapote ๐Ÿ˜ข We have got power back (after almost a week!) but the road is too broken by floodwaters to cross.
It could have been so much worse, and weโ€™re so thankful the predictions didnโ€™t come true. Sending love to everyone affected by this cyclone ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’š

Our finished rainforest art studio! ๐ŸŒฑ This build really pushed us to use as many recycled materials as we could, and most elements of the studio are second hand or reused. Seeing beauty in old, broken or discarded things is something that the world needs more of! ๐ŸŒ™ There is so much value in things that many would see as completely invaluable - this shed is built from invasive pine, the floorboards are seconds from the mill, and the bookcases are built from leftover floorboards. The doors are old garage doors our parents found on the side of the road. The entrance doors are secondhand but repainted to make new again. The windows are from the 1930โ€™s and the glass we used in them is from the rubbish tip. The other windows are from the side of the road and the kitchen is built from old paintings and floorboards and a secondhand kitchen bench. All the furniture is collected from garage sales and op shops or things we found at the rubbish tip and repurposed. ๐ŸŒž
The thing is that this doesnโ€™t just save you money by always finding the cheapest, or often free thing discarded at the tip, but also brings so much character and individuality to this place, with each corner of this art studio holding a story. And then most importantly these pieces donโ€™t impact the climate, instead of manufacturing something new, we have been able to make use of many things that would have otherwise been landfill! More on this build coming soon but we just posted a start to finish of the whole journey on our YouTube channel! ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’š

Up in the valley there are secret fairy pools ๐ŸŒž when the humidity hangs heavy in the afternoon youโ€™ll find us here, jumping into to the fresh water, searching for crystals beneath the reflections and floating for hours on end ๐Ÿงš

See your life like an artwork, your artwork like a life. Donโ€™t try to view it all at once; notice a convergence of many elements entwined. A portrait consists of a million tiny strokes. A life consists of a million tiny moments. ~ A quote from our book, Mother the Mountain, the Art of Living with Nature

Listen to the birds sing, the frogs call, the windโ€™s voice and the streamโ€™s rhythm. Know that you are not separate from nature. We are all guided by the same water, orchestrated by the same moon. The sunโ€™s same beams fall onto our skin and the airโ€™s same breath feeds us. Walk with the earth and feel the interconnections beneath your feet โ€” a quote from our book, Mother the Mountain, the Art of Living With Nature ๐Ÿ’š
