A bit about Kate...
Welcome to Being Kate Loudly. My digi world handle is silent ranks. Someone recently told me I was not-so-silent Kate. It made me think. He is right. I am not a silent person. Not in my manner, not in my voice and not in my opinions. That handle is a left over from another time. A time when I felt I wasn’t heard. Things have changed a lot since then. I am again embracing my true self. The rest of the world be damned. My friends comment made me think long and hard about how I wanted people to see me and in turn, see my art. In May 2020, Silent Ranks Scraps became Being Kate Loudly.
So, who is Kate? Kate is a girl who grew up without a lot. Material possessions, food and love were in short supply much of my life. I was often told I was too loud, too much, too opinionated, too....Kate. I don’t have much family to speak of. That makes me fiercely protective of the ones I do have. Whether they be by blood or brotherhood. The family I speak of are the ones who do not say that I am too much anything.
At 18 I joined the military. I loved it! Serving your country teaches you a lot about yourself. No. I am not a combat veteran. I am however a veteran just the same. I have service related injuries that affect my day to day living. It is what it is, and I do my best to make them work with/for me rather than against me. I don’t always win this battle but I am always fighting. I am married to a combat veteran who was medically retired with his own set of service related injuries. Yeah, I know right? It can be a bit crazy but at least life is never boring lol.
CREATIVITY! This is my safe place. My therapy. My calm amongst the storm. Creating is how I survive the world of people. It helps me process. I love colour, I love to think outside the box and just have fun with it. “Art is anything you can get away with.” This quote hangs in my creative space and I believe it tells an important truth about art. There are no rules! Even if there were rules I probably wouldn’t fall into line lol. I hope you enjoy viewing my creations as much as I do making them.
