After 3 epic years, the Heavy Handed podcast will be going on an indefinite hiatus 😢.

Catch up with Daz, Dean, Tobes, and Todd one last time, to look back and reflect on our favourite times and guests on the show. We also open the playlist up to our loyal listeners, taking requests that explore multiple genres within the heavy music world.

After the tragic news of Jon Wysocki's passing this week, I wanted to share a short video taken from when he appeared on the show 2 years ago.

I didn't upload it at the time, mostly because I was so visibly nervous to be meeting one of my favourite drummers. I was a huge fan of Jon's work on Staind's 'Dysfunction' and 'Break the Cycle', albums that barely left my cd player in the late 90's.

Within moments, his calm, humble demeanour instantly put me at ease, and I left the conversation incredibly thankful to have been given the opportunity to connect with him, and his bandmates.

A big thanks to Tonya, Corey, and Cody from Lydias Castle for allowing me to fanboy out for these 5 minutes, it was a moment in time that I'll forever cherish - Daz.

Alright, so for those of you who have listened to our latest episode with The Merlz, where we talk about our first band together, 'Seize The Day', do we have a treat for you.

These are the photos from our first 'photo shoot', taken around Merlz's Mums place in Sawtell circa 2004.

Merlz with short hair, Todd with hair, and Daz sporting the died brown mop, we were all set to become the latest nu metal sensation to rock the east coast.

With our first single 'Break Me' freshly recorded, nothing could stop us. Or could it?

Ever since we first started Heavy Handed, we've wanted to interview our very good friend, The Merlz. With his impeccable music taste and ability to share a good story, it was only a matter of time before it finally happened.

On one dark night in March, fuelled by Merlz's very own delicious beef masaman curry, and Maynard from TOOL's exceptionally tasty wine, Daz, Todd, and The Merlz finally got together and hit record, over 2 and a half years later.

With 2023 coming to a close soon, we wanted to take a moment to say thanks for your continued support of our podcast this year 🙏🏻

We didn't quite release as many this year as other years, but we feel the ones that we did really counted. What started as a simple radio show concept, has really evolved into a show about connection. While we'd love to pump out episode after episode and stay constantly present in the scene, we prefer our guest shows to flow organically, and happen when the time is right for everyone. Some happen quickly, there are others who we're still chasing after knowing each other for over half our lives 😂. If it's forced you're doing everyone a disservice, and for one reason or another, every show we've done so far has landed at the perfect time.

We'll be back with 1 more show on the 18/12, looking back on the year that was in heavy music and giving you our Good Things Festival wrap up! 🤘🏼

Season 4 next year and there's already plenty of conversation happening around who will be joining us on the show to chat all about their career, and play us their favourite tunes! Get excited!! 🍻

Fun fact: It took Clint Boge 3 separate attempts to release the material from Final Days of Autumn! Probably not so much of a fun fact for him, but we're so glad he stuck to it and finally released this masterpiece this year!

This lil capture taken after one of Clint's solo shows in Brisbane. At a time when shows were being postponed and cancelled all over the place, this performance was a saving grace. After he finished playing, he walked over to each and every table and thanked them all for coming out. It was such a great gesture, and one that has stuck with me ever since. There aren't any rockstar ego's to be found here, and in my opinion those make the best rockstars.
