Cover reveal for Fists Of Love, the new novel from Kami published by Paroxysm Press.

Being launched on Sunday November 17th at Jive on Hindley Street. Doors open 3pm for 4pm start.

Featuring an extract reading from Kami, spoken word from Kerryn Tredrea and Nadia Patterson and finishing up by rocking out to Get Some.

Fists Of Love $30. Kami's first two novellas, now together in one volume, $20 or only $10 with the purchase of Fists Of Love.

Spoke N Slurred will have a new, temporary home - A Social Undertaking on Gresham St off Hindley. Not only is Paroxysm Press well familiar with their establishment but their crew have been regular punters at SnSd. There will be two before the end of the year. Sunday Sept 29th & Oct 27th. November will be reserved for a very special event we'll fill you in on soon and we always take December off.

We can't wait for you to see these great digs and meet the supportive people behind it. And don't worry, we hope to have Bryan from Broadcast Bar on board slinging beers with own his brand of grumpy charm.

It is nearly time to say goodbye to the Broadcast Bar! The whole building is set to be torn down and this Sunday August 25th will be the last Spoke N Slurred in its current home. Avalanche at Spoke N Slurred But fear not Paroxysm people. Bryan has had many a venue over the years and there will be another soon enough. And with it a new home for our monthly event. But please do come along and see this legendary dive bar off in style!

Edit: This post has been shared around outside of Paroxysm far more than we expected. But it's important to remember that this is not so much an end as a new beginning. There will be a new venue, maybe under the Broadcast Bar name, maybe not. It's not time to grieve but to celebrate what has been and what will be.

Ian Gibbins: poetry / music / science :
Alison Paradoxx was a unique, special person and an absolute powerhouse of a performer. She appeared on the local spoken word scene apparently fully formed and quickly became one of the leading figures around town, going on to represent South Australia in the Australian Poetry Slam. I was fortunate to be at many of the local events where Alison performed and was able to record some of them. Here is a showcase of some highlight performances over the years, mostly supported by Spoken Word SA - South Australia www.facebook.com/SpokenWordSA and Paroxysm Press. The first and last scenes in the sequence are from Alison's amazing Fringe show "Floral Peroxide" which you can see in full on my other post.

Editing and reliving these performances has been a total joy. I hope that these recordings will help keep Alison's incredible work fresh and alive in your memories.

While I was in Adelaide to perform, I dropped into this beautiful place. Here is me in the poetry section at Dymocks Adelaide where you can now buy my books LOVE & F POEMS, JUST GIVE ME THE PILLS and SHES NOT NORMAL. Check out the beautiful aesthetics, this place was once the Regent Theatre. Very cool.

Alison Paradoxx (Bennett) has parted ways with this world, from Paroxysm Press, from all of us. It's been so hard to find the words or to bring myself to say them. She fought the good fight for so very long it seems somehow impossible that she isn't still with us.

Paroxysm Press first felt her impact on the microphone. Her passionate and fiery words that moved us, inspired us and filled us to overflowing with emotion. Alison very quickly became a Paroxysm regular. We were honoured to take the next step and publish her in print, as one of the four authors in the book Spitting Teeth.

Alison was an amazingly talented writer, performer and artist. She was one of nicest, purest and most awe inspiring people I've ever known. She was our friend.

The world is now less of a place. May her words live forever.

Sarah Pearce is a poet, editor and researcher from Tarndanya (Adelaide). Her work has been published in various journals and anthologies, including Best of Australian Poems 2023. She has performed at festivals, held residencies locally and interstate and is currently completing a Literary Fellowship at the State Library of South Australia, experimenting with found poetry and ecopoetics. She writes about embodiment, the Gothic, q***r experience, mental and physical health and the environment.
