LATEST!!! Huge meteor shower to hit Adelaide skies overnight early hours of Friday morning at 3.15am.
Adelaide is gearing up for a celestial spectacle as the Geminid meteor shower is poised to grace the skies with its annual display.
This year’s event, occurring in the early hours of Friday the 15th of December, is anticipated to be one of the most remarkable in recent memory.
The absence of moonlight will render the sky exceptionally dark, providing a pristine backdrop for the meteor shower.
This year’s unique conditions offer the increased likelihood of spotting meteors, with Adelaide expected to witness up to 35 meteors per hour at the shower’s peak.
This natural extravaganza is a fitting celebration as we approach the end of the year, combining the thrill of a party with the awe of astronomical phenomena.
The Geminid meteor shower, a result of Earth passing through the debris of the asteroid 3200 Phaethon, will be particularly visible in the early hours, with its peak viewing times varying across Australia.
In Adelaide, the optimal time to witness this cosmic event is early hours of Friday morning at 3:13 am ACST.
Observers are advised to start watching an hour or so before the peak time to enjoy the full experience. This year’s shower is special due to the alignment of the peak with Australian morning hours.
The Geminids will appear to radiate from a point in the constellation Gemini, reaching their zenith when this point is highest in the sky. This alignment, combined with increasing meteor rates over the past few decades, sets the stage for an unprecedented viewing experience in Adelaide and across Australia.
For the best viewing experience, Adelaide residents should aim to find a dark location away from city lights.
The Geminids, known for their brightness and relatively slow speed, offer a good chance of being seen, even in urban areas.
Some meteors might even exhibit a greenish tinge, a phenomenon attributed to atmospheric factors rather than the meteor material itself.
Viewers should look towards the constellation of Gemini, specifically near the bright stars Castor and Pollux, to spot the meteors. However, rather than focusing on a single point, it’s recommended to scan the sky to catch the meteors in their full trajectory.
As light pollution continues to obscure the night sky, finding a dark spot becomes increasingly important for an optimal viewing experience. Preparation is key for those planning to watch the meteor shower. Allowing eyes to adjust to the darkness, finding a comfortable viewing spot, and being patient are essential.
The meteors won’t appear at regular intervals, but patience is likely to be rewarded with a memorable show, weather permitting.
The Geminid meteor shower overnight might mean setting your alarm super early, however it presents a not-to-be-missed opportunity for Adelaide’s stargazers and casual observers alike. With its combination of a dark sky, increased meteor rates, and the spectacle of bright, colourful meteors, this year’s event promises to be a highlight in the astronomical calendar.

Please check your Christmas tree for baby birds before purchasing.
Shockingly wet and windy out there for our wildlife. This tiny fledgling was found soaking wet in the tray of a Ute after his tree was cut down for a Christmas tree and loaded up to sell. Apparently 5 others were accidentally sold in their tree and taken to the purchasers home before they were discovered! Check your Christmas trees peeps. It may be someone’s home. 😀🎁🎄

South Australians are poised to benefit from a groundbreaking initiative: 24/7 pharmacy services. This development, spearheaded by the Government, ensures that three community pharmacies will now operate round-the-clock, seven days a week.
The three pharmacies, strategically located in northern, southern, and central Adelaide, were selected through a competitive tender process. These include Chemist Warehouse at the Saints Shopping Centre in Salisbury Plain (North), Chemist Warehouse in Clovelly Park (South), and National Pharmacies in Norwood (Central).
The extended hours are set to reduce unnecessary hospital emergency department visits by providing timely access to medicines, health advice, and pharmacy services at all hours. Presently, emergency departments are the only walk-in health facilities available 24/7.
The new 24/7 pharmacies will begin operating on this schedule starting from February 2024, beginning with National Pharmacies at Norwood, followed by the two Chemist Warehouse locations in early March.
Flying high, you always know your home when you see this magical view ✈️🛫🛬

Pirate Life Brewery in Port Adelaide are known for their great booze, frothy craft beers, and delectable food options, with 24 beers on tap and a great hospitality crew keen to serve you, your guaranteed to be geared for a good time 🍺🍻
Pirate Life’s kitchen spans a respectable seventy metres squared, which can be viewed openly from the venue’s beer garden. Its central point is an impressive 5×1.5m fire pit roaring away.
History:
In the Summer of 2014, brewers Jack Cameron and Jared ‘Red’ Proudfoot led a convoy of associates, chums and troublemakers on a journey across the Nullarbor Plain. Their final destination? Adelaide, South Australia - where a modest 1,000 square metre plot in the inner western suburb of Hindmarsh was patiently awaiting their arrival.
It was here that duo established Pirate Life Brewing and with the site keys buried firmly in their back pockets, an ambitious build schedule was put in to place: Install a 2,500 litre brew-kit, hook up six stainless steel fermentation vessels, lock in a semi-automated canning system and begin brewing their very own recipes in just 12 short weeks.
Never ones to shy away from a deadline, Jack and Red got to work; and with the help of MC (Jacks dad, hospitality veteran and founding CEO), they promptly began transforming the site previously used to house spare air conditioner parts in to a fully functioning fantastic brewery.

Who doesn’t love a good foot massage 😌 Experience the tranquil haven of Warrawong Wildlife Sanctuary. It’s the only place on mainland South Australia where you may see the elusive platypus. The Sanctuary is also a thriving eco-system where hundreds of Australian native animals flourish. Koalas, kangaroos, wallabies, bandicoots, potoroos, bettongs, and birds, rarely seen outside the feral-proof fence, all safe and protected at Warrawong. The award winning Sanctuary was founded in 1969 by Dr John Wamsley, when he purchased a 35 acre dairy. Later, he and his wife Proo surrounded the property with a 2.1 metre high, electrified, feral proof fence. The fence created a safe haven where native animals were protected from introduced predators like cats and foxes. Many consider this approach to be a world’s first. Warrawong Wildlife Sanctuary is a serene environment for animals and humans alike. Visit us and experience the best of natural Australia. Website: http://www.warrawongws.com.au/

Sooo cute! 🥰 Both Wang Wang and Fu Ni had an enriching joint birthday party at this year's Teddy Bears' Picnic at the Adelaide Zoo 🐾 Wang Wang had a tutti frutti scented bubble bath to start the day and he just couldn't help but try to make the rest of his enclosure smell as good as he did! Later, Fu Ni had some food from Wang Wang's Wonton Cart, as created by the BEEZA (Behaviour and Environmental Enrichment of Zoo Animals) team. Happy 17th Birthday Fu Ni.
