Instagram's getting a grid glow-up! 👀

Instagram is rolling out rectangular profile grids, embracing the vertical content trend dominated by Reels. This update will showcase your existing portrait posts and Reels better on your profile, maximising their visual impact.

We're excited about this shift to a more vertical-friendly grid. But note to self: time to update all templates from square to portrait!

Do you know the origins of the Michelin star restaurant rating system? 🛞🍽️

It all began in 1889 in France when there were fewer than 3,000 cars in the country, and Andre and Edouard Michelin came up with a clever idea to increase road travel (to increase demand for tyres). They produced a guide for drivers which included maps, tyre change instructions, fuel locations, etc.

In the 20s, the guide evolved and restaurants were added, resulting in the Michelin star rating system we know today. Restaurants with one star were ‘worth stopping at’, two were ‘worth a detour’, three stars, were ‘worth a special journey’.

What a remarkable story of brand building and demand generation! 👌

📲 INSTAGRAM UPDATE 📲 Instagram is increasing the visibility of Reels from smaller accounts, using a strategy similar to TikTok’s.

Now, each new original video on Instagram will have the opportunity to immediately reach non-followers, with top-performing content receiving a further boost for wider distribution.

This update aims to level the playing field, providing all accounts, regardless of their size, the chance to achieve greater organic reach. 👌

Noticed anything new on Instagram or Facebook? ♾️ Meta has launched its AI chatbot, Meta AI, available directly on Instagram, as well as Facebook, Messenger, and WhatsApp. With Meta AI, you can ask questions, generate AI images with the “Imagine” feature, and more. Powered by Meta Llama 3, it’s also accessible on the standalone website, meta.ai.

🚨 Facebook Scam Alert 🚨

Have you received a barrage of private messages to your Facebook Business page lately, claiming the page will be deleted for violating Facebook policies or community standards, or infringing upon their trademark rights? Beware, these messages are a phishing scam! 😡

These kinds of cyber attacks are carefully crafted and delivered on a mass scale, with the goal being to trick unsuspecting users into providing personal information which could be used to gain access to bank accounts or steal recipients’ identity.

A couple of things you can do to try and prevent these messages is to change your page location settings to reflect only the country you operate in (i.e. just Australia, or just the US). You can also switch off ‘Guest Chat’ in your pages Messenger Chat Plugin settings.

Be careful and stay vigilant, everyone! 🤞

Originating in the US and occurring on the day after Thanksgiving, the global pre-Christmas sale event has become even more popular in Australia than the Boxing Day sales!

Starting on Friday 24 November - with some retailers launching earlier - Black Friday continues through the weekend, culminating with Cyber Monday on 27 November.

There are a few ideas as to why it’s called Black Friday, but the most accurate one originates from the chaos that ensued in 1960s Philadelphia, where hordes of holiday shoppers flocked to the city the day after Thanksgiving. It wasn't until the 1980s that it started symbolising a significant boost in retail sales.

Thursday night marketing seminars with the ladies. 👯‍♀️ Well done Petra Manos on sharing your knowledge around the transition from Google’s Universal Analytics (UA) to Google Analytics 4 (GA4).

Starting July 1st, GA4 will officially take over and UA will stop collecting data. GA4 is based around ‘events’, rather than UA’s session-based model. All website actions are considered an event & any event can be turned on as a ‘conversion’ to track business outcomes.

Lots to learn to maximise its potential, but worthwhile doing so to harness the full range of GA4’s new features. 👌
