APAC marketers lead the way in leveraging AI to create social media content

Meltwater, a global leader in social and media intelligence and data analytics, has today released its State of Social Media 2024 report. It finds that although nearly half of APAC teams (47%) expect social media to play a more significant role this year, they’re more likely to dedicate the same budget rather than increase it.

The report, which includes responses from over 2,000 global marketing and communications professionals, found APAC marketers see AI as more important to social media than their counterparts around the world, with 55% saying it is somewhat important compared to 44% globally, and nearly two thirds (64%) using AI to help create social media copy.

Lack of social media strategy and software implementation a struggle for APAC
Compared to other regions though, teams in APAC find that not having a defined social media strategy is a bigger challenge (37% vs 25% in EMEA and 29% in Americas) despite 34% of respondents having a dedicated social media team. And 25% are in the tougher spot of having a strategy but lacking the resources to execute on it, with 51% concerned about employee bandwidth.

Yet, fewer APAC respondents take advantage of software to help with scheduling and reporting. Only 47% say they currently use software, compared to 61% globally, though a larger percentage are interested in pursuing this in 2024.

Acast Paves the Way in Integrated Marketing Campaigns for Podcast Advertisers

Acast, the world’s largest independent podcast company, is leading new approaches to integrated marketing campaigns for podcast advertisers around the globe. Since launching its first multichannel campaign more than six years ago, Acast has continued to harness the power of podcasters in the $250 billion global creator economy to help brands reach audiences across traditional and emerging media channels.

Proving the power of podcasters in the creator economy, a recent study by Cumulus Media and Signal Hill Insights found half of weekly podcast consumers follow their favorite podcasters on social media. According to this same study, this number increases to 68% when looking specifically at podcast listeners between the ages of 18 and 34. Simultaneously, as podcasters and fans have explored their love for the medium across various channels, advertisers have seen the value of multichannel campaigns. In 2023, Acast saw a 46% increase in advertisers booking multichannel campaigns from the year before. To meet this demand, Acast has continued to expand its expert strategic recommendations and campaign ex*****on for podcast advertisers across video, social media, live events and more for maximum scale and impact.

“Over the years Acast has continued to refine its multichannel offerings because of increased demand for advertisers looking to spread their message across a variety of platforms. Most recently at Acast we’ve also seen more and more podcasters show interest in working with brands to monetize not only their podcasts, but also other media where they connect with their dedicated audiences,” said SVP of the Creator Network at Acast Veronika Taylor.

Hey there, podcasters! 🎙️ Exciting news! I just released a new episode on The Podcast Exchange, and I can't wait to share three key takeaways with you all. Here they are:

Value Over Price: In a competitive market, it's essential to showcase the value you provide beyond just the cost. Emphasize your expertise, quality, and results to attract clients who prioritize excellence over affordability.

Package Your Services: Instead of offering a one-size-fits-all solution, create tiered packages that cater to different needs and budgets. By highlighting the value proposition of your premium services, you can demonstrate the benefits of investing in your expertise.

Focus on Intangibles: Don't just focus on basic editing services. Highlight the extra value you offer, such as social media promotion or guest booking, to attract clients who are looking for a comprehensive podcasting experience.

The future of digital audio sounds good with innovation and improved measurement, delivering growth

90% of agencies have used audio advertising this year, according to IAB Australia's Australian Audio State of the Nation Report, with 83% of media agencies including streaming digital audio advertising as a significant or regular part of their activity. According to the report, which is in its eighth year, agencies intend to spend more money in podcasts (64%) and streaming audio (61%) in the upcoming year

Sophisticated targeting and personalisation, standardising ways to measure incremental reach, attribution, and cross-platform effectiveness along with improving programmatic supply were identified by respondents as the greatest opportunities for audio digital advertising growth. Ad buyers also identified the use of AI, particularly around content and ad creation, as a potential driver of future growth in digital audio and podcast advertising.

Brand building was again named as the dominant campaign objective for media agencies using digital audio advertising (87% using streaming audio and 80% using podcast advertising for brand awareness), with fewer buyers using it for lower funnel activities such as increasing sales or conversions (33% for streaming and 30% for podcast). Audience attention and engagement was seen to be the key driver for audio investment (62%) followed by incremental reach (52%) and ability to complement other media (50%). These last two point towards the power of audio to supplement other channels, a power that is not lost on buyers with eight in ten media agencies commonly buying digital audio advertising in combination with other media, most often with other digital display advertising (including digital video).

‘Half-Arsed History’ Podcast Joins Acast Creator Network, Hits Six Million Listens

Acast, the world’s leading independent podcast company, has signed the popular history podcast ‘Half-Arsed History’ to its growing Acast Creator Network.

Boasting six million all-time listens, 90,000 weekly listens and huge audiences in Australia, the UK, US and New Zealand, ‘Half-Arsed History’ takes listeners on a journey through the ages, blending humour, insight and unforgettable tales from the past.

Launching in 2018, the ‘Half-Arsed History’ podcast has established a loyal and highly engaged audience purely through audio, without the support of a social media or video component. The podcast recently caught the attention of Spotify, who included the show in their 2023 RADAR program. Meanwhile, late last year the podcast signed with leading entertainment talent agency WME for representation.

Hosted by Riley Knight, ‘Half-Arsed History’ highlights absurd and entertaining stories from the past, ranging from the history of the toilet to the lost secret of Greek fire. Each week, listeners are treated to three episodes, a full-length deep dive into a tale from the past, ‘Quarter-Arsed History’ – the bite-sized companion episode – and ‘Monuments’, the series that dives deep into epic builds such as The Pantheon and Stonehenge.

In 2012, Knight completed a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Melbourne, majoring in History. Six years later, he started ‘Half-Arsed History’, which put his history degree to good use.

Riley Knight said: “In high school, my Year 11 history teacher gave me a failing grade, saying my work consisted of 'a series of unsubstantiated generalisations with no evidence'. I'm proud to say that absolutely nothing has changed since then. It's still a mystery as to why Acast have agreed to pick up my tinpot history podcast although I'm very glad they did.”

Hey everyone! 🎙️ Exciting news! We just released a new episode of That Podcast Exchange, and this one is packed with valuable insights on personal branding, AI tools, and leveraging LinkedIn to grow your business. Here are three key takeaways from our conversation with personal branding expert and content strategist, Jennette Cajucom:

1️⃣ Authenticity Over Ambition: Jeanette emphasized the importance of focusing on purpose rather than ambition when building your personal brand. By staying true to your core values and beliefs, you can create a brand that resonates with your target audience on a deeper level.

2️⃣ Value-Adding Strategies: Whether you're a podcast manager, service provider, or entrepreneur, putting your target client at the center of your strategy is crucial. By understanding your client's needs and providing value that helps them move from point A to point B, you can attract and retain clients effectively.

3️⃣ The Power of Storytelling: Storytelling plays a vital role in personal branding, especially on platforms like LinkedIn. Sharing your personal story and unique experiences can set you apart from the competition and build trust with your audience.

If you want to dive deeper into these topics and learn more about how AI tools can enhance your personal branding efforts, make sure to listen to the full episode on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, or via RSS. A podcast manager is the driving force behind the successful creation and promotion of a podcast. The offerings can vary, but here's an overview of what services typically include:

Content planning - A podcast manager can assist you in developing a content strategy that is consistent with your brand, the message you want to convey, and the interests of your audience. They can recommend the best topics to cover, the best guests to include, and the best ways to structure your episodes.

Scheduling - A podcast manager can schedule your podcast episodes and guests, ensuring a consistent release schedule, which is critical for growing and retaining an audience.

Guest coordination - A podcast manager can assist in identifying guests who would be a good fit for your show based on its theme, content, and target audience. They may research potential guests, contact them, and pitch your podcast as a venue for them to share their thoughts and experiences.

Overseeing recording and production - The podcast manager ensures that the audio quality is excellent while recording. They monitor levels and handle any technical problems that may arise.

As a destination for podcasts, YouTube has had a stellar year in 2023.

YouTube was the third-most-visited podcast destination in 2021. It was tied with Spotify in 2022 as the most popular platform among listeners of weekly podcasts. After two studies in 2023, YouTube has risen to the top of the pack and is currently the most popular podcast platform in the United States.

MARU/Matchbox was hired by Cumulus Media and Signal Hill Insights to perform a comprehensive study of 608 weekly podcast listeners for the eleventh installment of the Podcast Download series. The study took place from October 13–19, 2023. Every year, two studies are carried out. In addition to examining themes like platform preference, content trends, perceptions of brand safety and content appropriateness, and more, the Fall 2023 Report also highlights trends from earlier studies.

For the past two waves, YouTube is the most popular platform in the United States for listening to podcasts: 28% of respondents say they use it the most, followed by Spotify (15%) and Apple (12%).

Podcasts are on the rise and many podcasters are looking beyond the numbers…but are they looking at the right numbers? Success in podcasting isn't centered around gaining listeners. There are some podcasters that are "push marketers". They want to push their content out there and hope that people come to listen.

For aspiring podcasters or new podcasters, you should focus on attracting the right listeners—the kind of people who will connect with your podcast and become avid listeners (and hopefully, fans). How can you do it? You can do that by knowing your data or the information you have on hand.

In this episode, we will have Graham Brown, founder of Pikkal & Co— an award winning podcast agency, a true expert who has been involved in over 2,000 podcast episodes as a host, producer or guest. He will guide us through the importance of the “data” for podcast growth.
