My 20th anniversary as Endometriosis Warrior:🌻

I was diagnosed with Endometriosis in 2004 after a surgery on 28 June 2004, which is exactly one month after my birthday (28 May 2004). At quite a young age, the surgery was terrifying, and I meditated on Psalms 23:1 🙏on the operating table for divine intervention and spiritual support. With slightly less than 45kg, I was shivering in the freezing cold operating theatre and the surgery took a few hours. I thank God that it was not cancerous, and I managed to keep all my organs. However, the recovery process was a long journey, and the post-treatment was tough. There was no mental health support at that time, as I was living in a developing country, but I chose to be a survivor than a victim of this ugly disease. When given the option to survive or die, I choose to survive and live to the fullest because choosing to die is a coward choice. I want to turn tears and hurt into something good through research that benefits other patients and brings awareness to the community. (I hope I will be given an opportunity to pursue PhD related to this area.) I asked my surgeon what the cause of my illness and he had told me it could be stress, but he could not confirm it as Endometriosis is under-research.
At that time, I was living in Southeast Asia and nearly no one in my community knew about this disease except that I was having excruciating pain. As an Asian woman in a developing country, the lack of social understanding and cultural aspect about this disease particularly that involved infertility was heart breaking. As an Endometriosis patient with 20 years of experience, I think this disease is beyond physical illness, but the social, economic and cultural ramification of endometriosis is equally devastating particularly for Asian women living in developing country like me at that time.
However, I choose to be a survivor, and I have been an Endometriosis Warrior for 20 years.🌻
