„I like to think of the music as a sort of bog or swamp landscape that lies underneath the film’s structure, all connected - sometimes you just see the surface and it can look very unassuming, until you dip your foot in. Then you dive down all the way, and there’s a whole universe where you never reach the bottom. It’s a mysterious, expanding, strange world and it’s my job to decide how much of it we get to hear.“

Following the release of his acclaimed last major project „Patriarchs“ (2021), a musical exploration of the antediluvian patriarchs from Adam to Noah, with which he also thrilled audiences live, British avant-garde artist and composer Christopher James Chaplin has topped himself once again.

"The myths of our Western tradition have often captivated me, whether they be Greek, Roman, or Judeo-Christian. Myths are a transcendent collective narrative; a buried memory, not intellectual but spiritual, alive to all the senses of another world. These stories often describe forbidding passages guarded by terrifying monster-like creatures, which, if conquered, give access to other planes. 'Door 1 - Door 2' are two of these planes, opening to prophecy and kingship." (Christopher Chaplin)

After three years, Chaplin presents his new studio album »Door 1 Door 2« (LP / digital) and it has become one of his most epochal works to date. He has also enlisted the magnificent vocal support of Carmen Alt-Chaplin, Tassos Apostolou and the soprano Michela Varvaro and none other than Grammy-nominated American composer TIM STORY Music, a long-time musical companion of Chaplin, is responsible for the strong and minimalist cover painting. (Peter Zirbs) „When I was 14, I discovered Rob Bolland on Falco’s ‚Rock Me Amadeus‘. A superhero! He and his brother also wrote ‚You’re In The Army Now‘ - pop gods of my youth. Their name always stuck in my head. In autumn 2023, I heard from Michael (Fabrique Records) that he was meeting Rob in Vienna. I jokingly asked if he would sing over my demo. To my surprise, he agreed. In the studio, Rob was 100% in ‚the zone‘ - pure creativity, with no distractions. His attitude inspired me deeply. I also learnt from him: a song has to be authentic, we leave the interpretation to the audience. ‚Melancholy Mary‘ remains mysterious: a misunderstood relationship, multiple layers, many interpretations. Rob is the medium, not the explainer.“
