Long-time Chief Executive Officer Ben Silbermann of Pinterest would step down, handing over the reins of the social media platform to Google commerce executive Bill Ready.

Pinterest has seen rapid growth since the appointment of Silberman in 2010, which began when he co-founded the company.

Silbermann, 39, will take up the newly created role of executive chairman and keep his board seat, while Ready will also join the board, the company said.

Ready will receive an annual salary of $400,000 and be eligible for a stock option award to buy about 8.6 million Class A shares.

Top accounting firm Ernst & Young has been slammed with a record $100 million fine from the US government. The firm was sent through fine after regulators discovered that the company knew some of its auditors were cheating on exams for several years and did nothing to stop it. The $100 million fine is its largest ever against an auditing firm.

In addition to the fine, the SEC ordered Ernst & Young to retain two independent consultants to "help remediate its deficiencies," with one firm reviewing the company's procedures on ethics and another on its disclosure failures.

Ernst & Young said in a statement that "nothing is more important than our integrity and our ethics" and that it is complying with the SEC's order.

The Indian rupee slipped into a fresh low today and extended losses against the US dollar. The Indian currency has depreciated to 78.92 vs US dollar in early trade today. On Tuesday, the rupee had plunged by 48 paise to close at 78.85 against the US dollar, weighed down by persistent foreign capital outflows and a surge in crude oil prices. Domestic equities were weak today, tracking lower global markets because of the sharp pullback noticed in the US equities last Friday.

Oil prices dipped slightly today but were still $117.37 a barrel, after rising in the previous three sessions. Losses were limited to the view that global supply tightness will continue as there is limited room for major producers such as Saudi Arabia to boost production. India imports more than two-thirds of its oil requirements, and higher crude prices add to the country's trade and current account deficits (CAD) and hurt the rupee by pushing up imported inflation.

The CEO of a $4.8 billion fintech firm Wise is being investigated by U.K. regulators after tax authorities found he failed to pay a tax bill worth over £720,000.

The Group of Seven clubs (G7) of wealthy nations on Monday decided to stand with Ukraine "for as long as it takes". The G7 promised to tighten the squeeze on Russia's finances with new sanctions that include a proposal to cap the price of Russian oil.

The announcement came after Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky, addressing G7 leaders at their summit in the Bavarian Alps via a video link, asked for weapons and air defences to gain the upper hand in the war against Russia within months.

Under the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, an air bridge carrying food and medical supplies has begun operating in Afghanistan, and a medical team and field hospital has been dispatched.

The aid shipment comes as part of the UAE's efforts to address the current situation in Afghanistan and its contribution to alleviating the impact of the disaster that recently struck southeast Afghanistan.

The earthquake resulted in thousands of deaths and injuries, as well as a shortage of food and medical supplies for a large segment of the population, particularly the elderly, women, and children.

Tesla Inc.’s two newest car factories have been losing billions of dollars as supply-chain disruptions and battery-cell manufacturing challenges limit the company’s ability to increase production, Elon Musk stated in a recent interview.

The two new company plants in Germany and Texas, which opened earlier this year, are “gigantic money furnaces,” the Tesla chief executive said in a May 30 interview with a Tesla owners’ club that was released Wednesday.

“Overwhelmingly our concern is, how do we keep the factories operating so we can pay people and not go bankrupt?” Musk said in the interview. He added that he expected Tesla to resolve these problems quickly.
