SECTORS JOIN FORCES FOR PEACEFUL AND HONEST 2025 ELECTIONS

Basilan Province - With five months remaining until the 2025 elections, local communities in Basilan have already initiated a multi-sector collaboration aimed at ensuring orderly, peaceful, and clean elections in the province.

Key stakeholders—including the Army’s 101st Infantry Brigade, the Basilan provincial police, national and Bangsamoro government agencies, and representatives from the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (M**F) and Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF)—signed a joint agreement on Thursday, December 12, in Lamitan City. The pact formalizes their commitment to uphold peace and honesty during the 2025 electoral process.

The initiative is spearheaded by the United States Institute of Peace (USIP), under the leadership of Aliah Adam, its Director for Strategic Communications and Capability Building Project. The activity also involved top officials of the police and military in Basilan.

During a forum facilitated by the 101st Infantry Brigade led by Brig. Gen. Alvin Luzon, the USIP, and the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO-BAR), participants laid out a comprehensive election security plan. The forum, held at the Lamitan City government gymnasium, was conducted under the auspices of the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

Basilan’s acting election supervisor, Atty. Muamar Guyo, along with provincial officials of the Bangsamoro Ministry of Basic, Higher, and Technical Education (MBHTE), pledged their cooperation.
Representatives from the M**F and MNLF committed to working with the police, military, and Comelec to ensure law and order during the election period.

The forum also activated multi-sector quick reaction teams and election monitoring action centers, with representatives from the Philippine Coast Guard, police officials, and community leaders collaborating to address election-related security concerns.

Police Brig. Gen. Romeo Juan Macapaz, director of PRO-BAR, and regional Comelec officials expressed their gratitude to Brig. Gen. Luzon, his 101st Infantry Brigade team, and the USIP for initiating this peace forum. They hope similar efforts will be replicated in other BARMM provinces to promote peaceful and transparent elections across the region.

This collective effort highlights the commitment of Basilan’s sectors to fostering safe and clean elections, setting an example for other areas in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

BASILAN BOXING MEGA XPLOSION KICKS OFF TODAY IN LAMITAN CITY

Basilan Province - The highly anticipated Basilan Boxing Mega Xplosion is set to take place today, December 15, in Lamitan City, Basilan. The event will showcase electrifying bouts featuring top-tier boxers from Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga City, and Basilan.

Organized by B-STEEL SPORTS in partnership with Eumir Marcial Boxing Promotion, the event highlights the talent and determination of local fighters.

The competition is made possible through the support of the Office of the City Vice Mayor Hegem Furigay, Big Fundamental Basketball, and TOM N TOMS Coffee.

ZERO BUDGET FOR PHILHEALTH, ANTI-POOR

Senator B**g Go expressed his opposition to the decision to allocate zero funding for PhilHealth in 2025, as approved in the Bicameral Committee Report on December 11.

The senator emphasized that although it was discovered during a series of Senate Health Committee hearings he chaired that PhilHealth has a reserve fund of P500 billion, he does not agree with the decision to withhold government subsidies. He considered this move as “anti-poor.”

He added that the PhilHealth fund should be used properly and that it must be allocated to the healthcare sector as mandated by law.

The senator also called for the support of lawmakers to ensure that the funds are directed towards health programs, rather than other purposes.

Furthermore, the senator discussed the Universal Health Care Law, which aims to reduce medical costs for every Filipino in the coming years. He expressed concern that the zero budget for PhilHealth could worsen the situation.

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Manong Chavit Singson, former governor of Ilocos Sur, visited Zamboanga City yesterday and unveiled bold plans to champion modernization, financial aid, and development, with a strong emphasis on Mindanao.

During his visit, Singson introduced VBank PH, also known as the "Bangko ng Masa." This initiative aims to provide free open bank accounts to underprivileged Filipinos, ensuring financial services are accessible to all. Alongside these accounts, VBank PH also offers credit cards tailored to the needs of low-income individuals, fostering financial inclusion and empowerment for underserved communities.

Singson further pledged to finance the country’s transition to electric vehicles (EVs), including modernized jeeps and motorcycles. “Ako na’ng bahala,” he assured, committing to sustainable transportation and modernization efforts, especially if elected senator.

One of his flagship proposals is to provide a Chavit ₱500 monthly financial aid program for jobless individuals and minimum wage earners, aiming to ease the economic struggles of low-income workers.
