The Future of Global Trade is Being Regionalised, Restructured and Rerouted, DMCC Report Finds

- Accelerated regionalisation to define trade, with the emergence of new rival trade blocs and corridors as deglobalisation takes hold

- ‘Friendshoring’ – the movement of operations to allies – will strengthen inter-regional trading hubs in Asia and North America

- Supply chain restructuring accelerated by rise of global security, protectionism and climate concerns

- AI is driving a paradigm shift as real-world adoption scales rapidly to seek out operational efficiencies and predictive analytics

- Future of Trade survey of 150 business leaders found AI as the most transformative technology for global trade

- UAE emerges in top 10 trade hubs for environmentally sound technologies amid growing importance of sustainability trade

- Report offers recommendations to businesses and governments to drive trade resilience and growth despite uncertainty on headwinds

Global trade growth and resilience will be maintained in 2024 as an accelerated shift to regionalisation drives deeper bilateral and multilateral partnerships. successfully tests Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell on PSLV-C58's orbital platform, POEM3

ISRO has successfully tested a 100 W class Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell based Power System (FCPS) in its orbital platform, POEM3, launched onboard PSLV-C58 on January 1, 2024. The objective of the experiment was to assess Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel cell operation in space and to collect data to facilitate the design of systems for future missions. During the short duration test onboard POEM, 180 W power was generated from Hydrogen and Oxygen gases stored on onboard in high pressure vessels. It provided a wealth of data on performance of various static and dynamic systems that formed part of the power system and the physics at play.

Hydrogen Fuel Cells produce electricity directly from Hydrogen and Oxygen gases, along with pure water and heat. It is an electric generator which works on electrochemical principles, as in batteries, as against the combustion reactions employed in conventional generators. The ability to produce electricity directly from fuels without any intermediate step renders them very efficient. With water as the only byproduct, they are totally emission free. These features make them ideal candidates for space missions involving humans where electric power, water and heat are essential since a single systems can meet multiple requirements in the mission....

Woke corporatism has started to implode

We would all be working from home, occasionally travelling into a shared workspace in our electric vehicles to collaborate on some ESG-approved product launches, while popping out at lunchtime to graze on some plant-based meat.

There were many megatrends that were expected to dominate economic activity this decade. Each attracted vast sums of venture capital money and generated lots of excitement on the sharemarket, as capitalism was re-orientated towards a more caring, inclusive way of doing business.....

One woman’s mission to elevate Cambodian cashews on the global stage

Born in Stung Treng, Muth Chakrya established a cashew nut shop in Sre Krasaing Village of the province’s Siem Bok District. During the Covid-19 pandemic, she experienced a severe financial crisis, leading her to abandon her role as a broker in purchasing agricultural products from farmers. The crisis prompted a prolonged visit to her hometown.

It was during this time that she transformed the crisis into an opportunity, starting Handcrafted Cashew Nuts Stung Treng, with a capital of $20,000. Her shop enabled farmers to sell their nuts at reasonable prices for domestic production.

Having started with $20,000 just two years ago, her business has now grown to a value of $1 million and provides employment to 45 people. Chakrya harbours ambitions to export Cambodian cashew nuts to international markets worldwide.Charkyra recently shared insights about her company’s evolution and future goals.

Could you tell us about the journey of opening Handcrafted Cashew Nuts Stung Treng? When did it begin, and what inspired its inception?....

Experts call for an international facility to be hosted in Australia

Is Australia ready for our supercomputing future?

Heard of exascale computing? It’s the next big thing in high-performance computing and it’s paving the way for scientists to analyse huge amounts of data and simulate complex real-world problems, thanks to computer processing speeds never seen before.

But Australia’s scientists say the nation is at risk of being left behind when it comes to reaping the benefits of high-performance computing without a long-term strategy and more significant strategic investment from government.

Experts at a national roundtable hosted by the Australian Academy of Science this week have called for an international exascale computing facility to be hosted in Australia.

They say a national strategy backed by at least one exascale capability would secure Australia’s sovereign research capability and enable science to meet national and regional priorities into the future.

Experts at the roundtable discussed Australia’s opportunity to position itself to host a next-generation computing facility that could be shared with regional partners – advancing science for the region and building a skilled workforce in Australia.....

Southeast Asia’s : Three ways companies can seize opportunities from Singapore

From high-integrity carbon credits to best practices in carbon management, here’s what panellists from Climate Impact X, ClimeCo, Bain and EDB discussed at the North America Climate Summit.

Southeast Asia (SEA) is set to play an important role in global carbon markets, being a rich source of renewable energy and natural carbon sinks across mangroves and peatlands, holding 20-25% of the global Natural Climate Solutions (NCS) supply. From providing financing for impactful climate projects to recognising the value of reforestation and greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction efforts in local ecosystems, carbon markets advance climate goals as part of an overall suite of efforts that include direct decarbonisation and the shift to more sustainable supply chains.

At the North America Climate Summit ( ) in , sponsored by the EDB, panellists Dale Hardcastle, Global Head of Carbon Markets at Bain; Saima Qadir, Carbon Markets Director at Climate Impact X; David Prieto, Senior Director of Climate and Energy Advisory at ClimeCo; and moderator Jingxin Zheng from the EDB discussed the long-term value of Southeast Asia to global carbon markets and how carbon services firms can seize opportunities from Singapore.....
