A woman in Abu Dhabi has delivered five babies following a quintuplet pregnancy at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (SSMC). This rare occurrence, estimated to happen spontaneously in one out of 45 to 60 million pregnancies, marks a significant medical achievement.

The babies were delivered at just 25 weeks of gestation, an extremely delicate stage, requiring advanced neonatal care. Despite the inherent risks of such pregnancies, both the mother and the newborns are reported to be in good health and have been discharged home.

Dr. Abdulqader Almessabi, acting chief medical officer at SSMC, emphasized the hospital’s capability to manage complex cases, stating that their specialized obstetrical and neonatology services are designed to handle critical pregnancies through a collaborative approach. He praised the efforts of the medical team in ensuring the successful delivery and care of the quintuplets.

is set to make public transport history once again with the announcement of the , slated to begin operations on September 9, 2029. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) revealed this landmark development on Thursday, marking a nostalgic nod to the city’s public transit legacy.

The date carries historical significance, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the Dubai Metro’s original inauguration on 9-9-2009 at 9:09 PM, a moment that heralded a new era for urban transport in the city.

A Dh20.5 billion contract has been awarded to a consortium of international construction leaders, including Turkey’s Mapa and Limak and China’s CRRC, to bring this ambitious project to life. Spanning 30 kilometers and featuring 14 state-of-the-art stations, the Blue Line promises to enhance connectivity, reduce congestion, and transform Dubai’s transit ecosystem.

The new metro line is expected to serve 200,000 passengers daily upon launch in 2030, with ridership projected to rise to 320,000 by 2040. The line’s design allows for a peak hourly capacity of 46,000 passengers in both directions, alleviating traffic congestion along its route by an estimated 20%.

“The Blue Line is a major step in advancing Dubai’s public transportation network, reflecting our commitment to sustainable, efficient, and innovative urban development,” an RTA spokesperson said.

With 28 trains operating across its 30-kilometer stretch, the Blue Line aims to seamlessly integrate with existing metro lines, providing improved access for commuters across Dubai. The new line is set to cater to the growing population and increasing demand for reliable public transit options.

Abu Dhabi: Christine Requerque Pedido, a 36-year-old security guard from the Philippines, is celebrating a life-changing win after claiming the Dh1 million grand prize in this week’s Millionaire e-Draw series.

Christine, who has been living and working in Al Ain for the past four months, resides in company accommodation while her family remains in the Philippines. Her journey with Big Ticket began six years ago during her first stint in the UAE, but financial constraints at the time kept her from purchasing a ticket.

Earlier this year, encouraged by Big Ticket’s Facebook promotions, Christine decided to try her luck. “To win on my very first ticket feels absolutely surreal,” she said, expressing her disbelief and joy. “It shows that luck can find you when you least expect it.”

Christine’s winning ticket was a joint purchase with 10 colleagues. Together, they are now planning their next steps with this extraordinary windfall.

The Millionaire e-Draw series, which continues throughout December, announces four weekly winners, each receiving Dh1 million. Christine’s story is a testament to how fortune can transform lives in unexpected ways.

A groom returning from with 150 wedding guests was shocked upon arriving in Punjab’s Moga to discover that his bride was missing and the wedding venue didn’t exist.

Deepak Kumar, 24, a laborer from Jalandhar who had been working in Dubai, planned to marry Manpreet Kaur after three years of communication on Instagram. However, the two had never met in person.

Deepak and his family traveled from Mandiali village to Moga for the wedding based on details provided by the bride about the venue. Upon arrival, they were told by the bride’s family that someone would es**rt them to the location. Despite waiting until 5 PM, no one showed up.

“We tried to locate the venue, Rose Garden Palace, by asking locals, only to learn that no such place existed in Moga,” Deepak recounted.

The groom claimed to have sent Rs 50,000 to Kaur before the wedding as part of the arrangement, which had been finalized through phone conversations between their families. Deepak revealed he had only seen Kaur’s photos on Instagram and had been misled into believing she was from Moga and worked in Ferozepur.

Prem Chand, Deepak’s father, expressed frustration, saying their family had spent considerable money preparing for the wedding. “We hired taxis, a caterer, and a videographer. We were deceived,” he said.

Police are investigating the incident to trace Kaur and determine whether it was a calculated fraud. Meanwhile, the Kumar family is left grappling with financial losses and emotional distress.

's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has intensified its efforts to enhance road safety, issuing more than 1,200 fines to delivery riders this year for breaching safety guidelines.

The violations ranged from riding without essential protective gear such as helmets, gloves, and reflective vests to operating without proper licenses. Additional infractions included reckless riding and using motorcycles or e-bikes that failed to meet technical standards.

According to an RTA spokesperson, over 11,000 inspections have been conducted since the start of 2024 in areas with high delivery activity. These include prominent neighborhoods such as Hessa, Zabeel, Jumeirah, Downtown, Mirdif, and Motor City.

During these inspections, authorities seized 44 motorcycles deemed unfit for use or with expired registrations. Furthermore, 33 e-bikes were confiscated due to their operators lacking the necessary licenses.

Saeed Al Ramsi, director of licensing activities monitoring at the RTA, highlighted the importance of these checks. "Regular inspections are a cornerstone of our strategy to improve road safety and ensure compliance with technical and operational standards," he said.

With the delivery sector rapidly expanding across Dubai, the RTA continues to work on educating riders and enforcing regulations to safeguard both road users and the riders themselves.
