More than 110 nations have signed to treble the world's renewable energy within seven years, over $300b dollars for climate action have been pledged in just the first five days but that's not all what makes the 28th annual United Nations (UN) climate meeting being held in Dubai so special....

One of the biggest perks of our jobs as journalists is the opportunity we often get to meet/interview/interact/run into celebrities/public figures. But rarely do they leave you starstruck.

You can't say the same for good ol' Wole Soyinka, pushing 90s and still at his acerbic best, more than three and a half decades after becoming the first African to win the Literature Nobel in 1986.

Notice that little smirk on his face? That's his characteristic look of disdain, disdain for most forms of depravity in his books and writings - British colonialism, African dictatorship, comparisons with a certain Morgan Freeman and taking selfies included.

Absolutely elated that he posed for this photo seconds after politely turning down my request for a selfie....

They don't make superstars like good ol' Wole Soyinka anymore...

As the readies to host in what will be a momentous chapter in our collective fight against climate change, Dubai-based Zain Ravdjee, the CEO and Chairman of ZR Group, tells me how he is getting involved in the country's overall "net zero movement" with his twin projects - one encouraging renewables through windmills and the other that is catering to global service providers like , , and leading over-the-top ( ) platforms, besides market leaders in the banking, financial services and insurance (BFSFI) sectors, using futuristic clean energy-fuelled "green data centres"...

One from the archives....I did this interview for ICC's official weekly magazine show on the day he announced his shock retirement.

The year was 2008, the place was Bangalore, just ahead of a Test series against the marauding Australians. He was in no mood to talk to the media, let alone doing one-on-one interviews but I got lucky I guess because of our Behala connection....

When I said I am "also from Behala" and have come from Dubai to shoot content for ICC, his immediate first question was "Behala kothaye?" (Behala where?) and the rest, as they say, is history....

He came, he sat and he conquered...talking about the thing he loves the most....one last time

You can ignore my knackered look after walking the length and breadth of the UK for the last 14 days and the round collar but it was great to reach the shores of Wales last evening to finally meet good old Ammar Akhtar, who has been disrupting the car rental space globally with his Welsh-funded Finalrentals - the world's fastest-growing automobile rental network with roots in the Polish port city of Gdansk and operations in over 25 countries across Europe, Americas and the Middle East.

Looking forward to telling your story to the rest of the world from June....

The communists are still there.....

Found him handing out pamphlets on Edinburgh's Princess Street, not far from the iconic Walter Scott statue and the Scottish National Gallery, on a warm Saturday afternoon as I huffed and puffed my way to the Waverley station for my train back to London. Had exactly a minute to spare for him but enough time to pull out the mobile for these quick clicks and a warm exchange of pleasantries.

He was ecstatic to hear that I come from a state that was once ruled by the communists for 34 years and a country that had the world's first democratically elected left government....

Nice little hark back to the times gone by....
