The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has issued new visa regulations and clarifications for expats in a resolution that covers the conditions and controls.

Among the new rules is a requirement for expats who wish to sponsor their relatives to have a monthly salary of at least AED10,000.

The rule specifies that foreigners who wish to bring their relatives or their wives’ relatives must have adequate housing and monthly income.

They are allowed to bring in up to five individuals if their monthly income is AED10,000 and up to six individuals if their monthly income is AED15,000. However, if the number of individuals exceeds six, the Chairman of the Authority will determine the applicant’s suitability.

A 40-year-old Filipina who worked as a freelance sales promoter at a supermarket in Abu Dhabi has won AED10 million in the latest Mahzooz draw.

The woman, identified only as Arlene, said that she would use the money to pay back her debts and donate to charity.

Arlene and her husband make approximately AED7,000 a month and have been struggling to make ends meet.

Despite this, Arlene has been participating in the Mahzooz weekly draw regularly, using a combination of birth and death dates of loved ones as her numbers.

She was shocked when she received an email informing her that she had won the AED10 million grand prize.

Arlene is one of five Filipinos to have won multi-million prizes in the Mahzooz draws.

Two Filipinos working in the UAE have won AED100,000 each from the latest draw of Mahzooz.

35-year-old Marc is a Filipino national who has lived in the UAE for three years and works as a weighing bridge operator for a recycling company in Sharjah. Marc participates in Mahzooz regularly and has purchased water bottles at least 70 times since Mahzooz began. Despite his persistence, Marc admits that he was pleasantly surprised to learn of his win on Saturday night from a friend.

After learning of his substantial win, upon asking what he would do with his win, Marc said, "I am ecstatic. This victory has convinced me and my family that Mahzooz fulfils one’s dreams. I hope to buy a plot of land back home for his family with a portion of the win and invest the rest in setting up a small business”.

Kervin, another 35-year-old Filipino living in the UAE for seven years and working as an office boy at a jewellery store in Dubai, is the second winner of the guaranteed raffle prize. Kervin, who must have bought 20-30 water bottles with Mahzooz, confirms that he is still perplexed by what happened on Saturday night.

The project aims to make Dubai the most connected city on earth by foot or bike.

The Loop is integrated with intelligent features such as kinetic flooring for clean energy.

As a mix-use infrastructure, it will also provide leisure and wellness facilities for residents.

The project fosters an entrepreneurial spirit in urban mobility for a well-being economy.

Pocket parks will promote social engagement and connect communities together.

Vertical farming is integrated into The Loop to provide food security for residents.

The Philippines’ team Strong Group Philippines is all set to conquer the Dubai International Basketball Championship (DIBC) 2023 this week.

Led by coach Charles Tiu, the Philippines’ team will be composed of NBA veterans Nick Young, Renaldo Balkman, Shabazz Muhammad, with the rising stars Will Gozum, Jerom Lastimosa, and Justin Baltazar.

Coach Ron Sanchez, the liaison of the Philippine team, is also with the group.

Before leaving the Philippines on Thursday, January 26, 2023, Tiu said that they faced big challenges, including their short preparation time and the sudden replacement of big man Ange Kouame due to dengue.

“It’s a very big challenge. We assumed that Ange Kouame would be there. That’s how we constructed our lineup, knowing we’d have a seven-footer in Ange, but obviously, without him, it’s a big challenge for us,” he said in an interview with GMA Integrated News.

Slated from January 27, 2023, until February 5, 2023, at the Al Nasr SC indoor basketball court, a total of seven countries will battle it out to be crowned the 32nd DIBC.

During the Mahzooz draw last January 21, 2023, the second prize of 1,000,000 AED was awarded to 23 winners (22 different individuals with one participant winning twice).

Double draw winners are not uncommon, and they occur more frequently than one might think. Adnan, a winner from Palestine is a living proof that luck could be on one’s side, TWICE in the same draw. The 36-year-old business owner who has been living in the UAE for the past 20 years, began participating in Mahzooz only six months ago.

Last week, not expecting that he would strike it lucky twice in the same draw, Adnan bought two Mahzooz water bottles, as he always does, chose the same set of numbers for each line and ended up among the AED 1,000,000 winners, not only once but twice.

Adnan is still coming to terms with his big win and has not informed his family members or made any plans, but it has become a topic of discussion among his friends, who have now joined Mahzooz hoping that they would become millionaires.

“I always buy two water bottles, for every draw and this time was no different. What was different this week, is my luck. I will continue to participate in Mahzooz hoping that one day, I will be the winner of AED10 million ” says overjoyed Adnan.

A Filipino storekeeper in Dubai won AED15 million on his first try at the Emirates Draw.

Russel Reyes Tuazon, 34, won during the raffle draw on January 13, 2023.

Hailing from Mabalacat, Pampanga, Russel only paid AED15 to join the draw.

He is the second eldest among four siblings in the family and moved to Dubai in 2008 at the age of 19. Because of financial problems, he has only finished high school.

Starting from the bottom of the Food & Hospitality industry, he worked for various restaurants and kitchens.

When the pandemic hit, he had to send his wife and child back to the Philippines.

His winning number was a combination of their birthdays.

“Most importantly, Russel’s story is a testament to the power of hard work and determination. He encourages others to continue working towards their dreams, no matter how difficult the journey may be,” said Emirates Draw in a press release.

The Dubai Mall has made a very minor change in its name. In a now-deleted TikTok video, it revealed a name change–they are now called simply ‘Dubai Mall’, after dropping the article ‘the’.

“New name but still your fave mall,” it posted along with hashtags .

The video garnered more than 300,000 views before it was taken down on Sunday, January 23, 2023.

Its social handles, on the other hand, were also updated with the new logo. The same design now bears ‘Dubai Mall Emaar’ instead of ‘The Dubai Mall Emaar.’

A spokesperson from the mall was quoted as saying in an expatmedia.net report that it was not still official.

Dubai residents are furious over a luxury hotel promotion that promises AED5 pay per night.

As it marks its fifth anniversary in the emirate, Aloft Palm Jumeirah dropped the ‘too good to be true’ promotion this week. It says in the press release that residents may book rooms from midnight of January 20, 2023.

However, many residents claimed they could not see the promotion on their website, as they instructed, on the scheduled date.

“The offer is only available from midnight on Friday, January 20, 2023, for stays from Saturday, January 21 to January 31, 2023,” a local report reads.

On its Google Review page, at least four people rated them 1 out of 5 stars for ‘fake advertisement’.

“January 20 12mn been trying and trying refresh the website trying my luck for ur offer of 5hs but I’ve never seen any of those. Its past 12:41am and my eyes wide awake for trying. Its a scam!!!!!!!!! Very disappointed,” one Google reviewer writes.

“I saw the ad on Aloft’s 5 dhs offer abd have been trying on the website since 12 a.m as mentioned. Looks like the ad was just a rumour as it doesn’t show the offer price of 5 dhs and it also says rooms not available when it was available before 12 a.m. No one ever picks the call at the reception too!!!” another commenter writes.

The hotel, as of this writing, hasn’t issued a statement.

An Asian man has been sentenced to life imprisonment after killing his girlfriend inside a vehicle in Dubai.

While the case dates back to 2019, the sentence against the man was just reported this year.

According to a local report, the young man entered a police station in the emirate soaked in human blood. He told the officers that he had killed his girlfriend and that her body was in the car parked outside the station.

When officers checked on his car, they saw the girl with several stab wounds on her body and a severed throat. A knife, described to be ‘large’, was also recovered in the back seat of the car.

The man revealed that he had been in an intimate relationship with the victim for five years. He discovered that she was in a relationship with another man. Khaleej Times reported that the man contacted the victim’s family in her home country who asked him to bring her back. He then asked to meet her, planning to kill her if she refused to marry him and go back with him to their home country.

During the incident

When the crime happened one night, the man drove to a parking lot near the victim’s house and asked her to come and talk. The woman sat next to him in the passenger seat and talked about returning to her home country.

The talk lasted for three hours. The man said he was in love with her and wanted to marry her; however, the woman told him that her family did not support their intention to marry. When she refused his proposal, the suspect was insulted.

He stabbed her with the knife he was keeping inside his vehicle in the neck and at different places of her body. When she was unconscious, he threw the knife on the back seat and turned himself in at the nearest police station.

He was convicted of premeditated murder and sentenced to life imprisonment.
